50 ways to relieve stress
- Take a walk
- Give or get a back rub
- Take a long warm bath
- Sing- any song will do
- Sleep
- Pet a cat/dog/bird/teddybear
- Tell all your troubles to a cat/dog/teddybear
- Curl up on the couch in warm pajamas with a cup of herbal tea and a good book
- Treat yourself to flowers, and remind yourself you deserve them
- Do something for someone else, an elderly neighbor, a relative-whoever
- Make a list of everything you love to do, then do at least one thing off the list
- Start a new hobby
- Learn to crochet/knit
- Write a long letter to a friend all about your feelings, you don't have to mail it, just get in touch with yourself
- Watch an old/funny movie
- Go to the zoo and observe the animals
- Hug a tree
- Clean the house top to bottom
- Close the doors and scream as long and loud as you want
- Get a manicure/pedicure/haircut/facial
- Browse the library, immerse yourself in other people's writing
- Write a story about your childhood
- Buy yourself an exercise outfit, then really exercise in it.
- Write a note of encouragement to someone, but make it anonymous
- Perform a random act of kindness
- Sit quietly and BREATHE, concentrate in the sound and feeling of your breath.
- Go on a listening walk- count how many sounds you hear, and describe them
- Bake cookies, and give them to someone.
- Spend some time talking with the elderly in a local nursing home.
- Volunteer at the local Humane Society
- Read your high school yearbook
- Call your mom/dad/sister/brother...anyone you haven't kept in touch with.
- Listen to the music you like the best, or try some new kind.
- Rearrange your closets and drawers
- Go swimming, especially if there is a heated pool nearby.
- Or take a steam bath/sauna
- Go to the local hardware/office supply/kitchen...store and buy something for yourself ( retail therapy)
- Bake bread (the smell is uplifting)
- Plan your perfect outing...sites,food,purchases...and then plan the day you WILL do this.
- Make a list of all your good qualities, tape it on the bathroom mirror
- Have an imaginary conversation (in the privacy of your own room) with the person who causes you the most stress. Really listen to what you say.
- Vow to share some of your conversation with them, they may not know the level of stress they are causing you.
- Listen to a subliminal relaxation tape
- Watch fish in an aquarium, imagine yourself as a fish swimming with them.
- Go to a playground and observe little children...notice thier wonder at the world.
- When you are grocery shopping, buy one item a better quality than normal....gourmet coffee, premium ice cream, fresh veggies instead of frozen. Know you are worth the effort.
- Buy new underwear, and wear them. Don't save them for a special day. Every day is special for you.
- Chew 3 pieces of bubblegum, try to blow the biggest bubble ever.
- Buy a bottle of liquid bubbles, blow bubbles outside and watch how high they go. Imagine your stress flying away inside of those bubbles.
- Lie quiet on a comfortable surface. Tell each part of your body in turn to relax. Let your mind drift.
