Katie Ryan & Cardinal Joseph Bernardin School Students
Thanks to the thoughtfulness and generosity of students at Cardinal Joseph Bernardin School, the residents of Tender Loving Care Animal Shelter in Homer Glen are going to be a little warmer this winter. Seventh-grader Katie Ryan, a member of the CJB Student Council, spearheaded a fundraiser earlier in October to help defray TLC’s winter heating bills. Ryan, a resident of Homer Glen, wanted to do something to celebrate her own love of animals as well as the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. In addition to raising funds for TLC, the CJB Student Council placed collection bins in every classroom in the school. Flyers were sent home to all CJB families with a “wish list” provided by the shelter. There was an overwhelming response from the students, who donated $481 in addition to many animal supplies, including dog and cat food, treats, pet carriers and toys.
