Getting to Know You... Getting to Know all About You...
It has been a terrific year! If you have not been to the shelter in awhile, you will be amazed by the transformation. We still find it hard to believe, even though we are here
every day! We are 90% done with Phase III, with just a few things left to do, mainly the "Getting to Know You Room".
We are presently trying to raise enough money to finish the remainder of the shelter's renovation, and can hardly wait till the "Getting to Know You Room" is ready. ( This is a much needed area for a quiet one-on-one with the animal, hopefully leading to an adoption). With your help we hope to have it up and running soon.
T.L.C.'s Baby Shower Update
This years baby shower for the puppies and kittens was not as busy as we had anticipated. But even so we all had a good time, and the animals did enjoy the extra attention they received along with goodies. We want to thank Donna Betts, PJ
Fitzgerald, Ina Jacobs, Kathy Melton, and Vickie Tryjefaczka for the people goodies that they made, and although the turnout was much smaller than anticipated, none of the goodies went to waste. If you would like to drop off treats, toys or other goodies for the animals, you do not have to wait for a special invitation... items and food for the animals are welcomed at any time.
While on the subject of supplies, please call before making a special trip with newspapers. Lately we have been inundated with them and have had to make several trips to the recycling center with them. Again thanks to everyone who came, and to everyone that helped out.
Someone You Should Know... Jim Mikota
Jim is at the shelter like clockwork every Saturday, and has been an active volunteer at T.L.C. for many, many years. There is nary a Saturday, Jim hasn't made it in, braving snow, sleet hail etc.. Jim mans the busy phones on Saturdays and tries to help with adoptions and information. We think Jim is someone you should know.
By the way, we want to take this opportunity to say " Thank you Jim"!
"I'll Only be a Minute" (famous last words)
How many times have you heard that phrase, as you waited patiently in the car, while your hubby or wife ran into the store? Did you doze, or read while you whiled away the time? On a hot day did you open the window, turn on the air conditioning, or maybe go into the closest Convenient to get something cold to drink, as you checked your watch again. Unfortunately pets in vehicles have none of those options, they just sit and wait patiently, some licking the glass or pawing at the window as the temperature soars. Some may bark but no one seems to pay any attention to their cries for HELP. When the temperature soars, it takes very little time for a car to become an inferno, a death trap for those trapped inside.
Yes, I know we have all heard it all before, same old same old. But why is it, more children and animals are dying from being left in hot vehicles, than ever before? What should you do? If you notice a pet or child in distress, don't figure someone else will do something about it, chances are they won't. if you see a situation like this at a shopping center or mall get a hold of mall security and make sure they respond, or you may call the local police to break into the vehicle.
Remember, a life could be at stake!
Tag Day Postponed
This year's Tag Day had to be put on hold due to lack of volunteer help. Sarah Ahlberg, who did a great job putting this event together last year, raised over over $1,000.00 for the shelter, and she hoped to top that. But things did not work out as we had hoped, there weren't enough helping hands to help split up the shifts. Tag Day might have been doable, but the weather was a major problem. We were in the midst of a heatwave, having already faced 5 days straight of 90+ heat, that showed no signs of letting up, along with an ozone alert. We didn't feel it was in the best interest of those volunteering to have them outside for hours on end under those conditions.
Tag Day will be rescheduled for early fall, as of yet no date has been set... but when it is we can certainly USE YOUR HELP.

Sandi O'Brien, our "WEBMASTER", has been doing a great job! Sandi has compiled photos and information on the animals awaiting homes which she updates weekly. We welcome telephone inquiries about which animals are in need ofa home, and we enjoy answering your questions, but we know it still doesn't satisfy your curiosity as to how the animal looks. Now the T.L.C. website takes care of all that. So if you're interested in adopting, just gather round the computer on Friday evening and take a peek!

We have had many satisfied people visit the site including Kathleen Clarke who wrote the following note: I found my kitten, Maggie, by using this website. I am handicapped so it was easier for me to look on the web sites than to travel from shelter to shelter. Your website was updated more frequently than the others. I really love my kitten. Thanks! and thanks to Sandi for a great job (Sandi O'Brien pictured above taking photos for the web site).
