Beth's Miniature

I have recently returned to
a hobby I had neglected for about 15 years...... Doll
Houses and miniatures. I am really finding it exhilirating to get
back to it and am finding that my other craft skills will work
well with miniatures. I can do needlework, paper arts and
painting. And I am so lucky to have a husband who can help me
with the many woodworking needs that will occur. He
does model cars, airplanes and other plastic miniatures so has lots
of experience in this.
When I first got the desire to get back into miniatures I thought I
would just do little scenes or vignettes and therefore would not need a
house. And after visiting a local dollhouse shop I discovered I
decided to work on 1/2 scale (1:24) and 1/4 scale (1:48) instead of the
more traditional 1:12 scale. That meant I could have more
stuff in less room!
But somewhere between good intentions and reality I knew I HAD to have
a doll house or two. And fortunately I was able to find not one but
two. The first one was a little 1/2 scale plastic house that I
plan to use mostly for fun and perhaps for when my granddaughter comes
to visit.

The second house I
found at an antique show in Kutztown, Pa. and I was really excited
about it. After talking with a couple of friends who know doll
houses I believe it to be an old German Half Scale Doll House. On the
bottom of the house it has stamped the words "Gesetzlich geschutzl"

Over the next few weeks I
hope to show the progress as I bring my
little old German House back to life. When I found it, it
was all
intact but since then some
of the details fell
off because of bad glue
job. AND the roof HAD to go. It was covered with roof
shingles
that
were way out of scale! Upon removal I discovered a red roof,
typical
of the German doll house of the early 20th century.
