PETE
JR.

1997
November/December
Pete Jr. made it to his
destination in Summerville, South Carolina, in time to have some
turkey. I heard he fell "head over hooves" over a female deer he met
there, and they have been inseparable ever since. The leader's
daughter, Brandy, made him a nice comfortable little bed, and he
settled in right away. She also made him a knitted scarf because it's
pretty cold outside. He had a lot of fun visiting everyone at
Carolina Low Country Council.
He went Christmas caroling with
Brownie Troop 544 and afterwards managed to eat a whole pizza by
himself! He"s lucky to be there for Brandy's birthday, so he got to
go to her party. I'll bet he had fun! He's so excited because today
he got a Christmas present! The troop made him a Santa Claus outfit,
and he's going to wear it in the Christmas parade. He can't wait-it's
the first parade he's ever been in!
1998
January
Pete Jr. spent this month
in Maine, with Brownie Troop 44. Unfortunately he was there during
the terrible ice storms that hit this area and he spent a lot of time
indoors just trying to stay warm!
February/March
Pete Jr. arrived just in
time to go to Cadette Troop 192 & Senior Troop 10's weekly
meeting. Ms Dotti & Ms Terri, the leaders, set up a table for the
"Sharing is Blooming" service activity. The girls are making small
size crib quilts which will be donated to the local rescue squad and
children's shelter. Pete Jr. worked on the "Tune Into Well Being" IPP
with the girls. He took part in some of the skits and had fun
exercising to the "Sweatin to the Oldies 3" tape. Since it is cookie
time, Pete Jr. also helped the girls tally their orders and sing some
silly cookie songs the leader got off the internet. The "Cookie Song
that Never Ends" is his favorite.
Near the end of February, he
went on a ski trip with Poofin the Puffin from Maine, Lois the Lion
from Pennsylvania and troops 192 & 10. The mascots took the ski
lesson with the girls, but soon got so cold that they decided to warm
themselves by the fire in the lodge and stuff themselves with sub
sandwiches.
For Thinking Day, he
joined with 5 other troops that meet in the same church. There were
plenty of skits and songs and of course refreshments. Tigette the
Tiggeriffic Tiger, and Sparkie the Dog told everyone about where they
had been and what they had done on their mascot adventures so far.
Postcards from the TD Postcard Exchange were also on display for
everyone to see.
On Girl Scout Sunday,
Pete Jr. joined with about 21 other Girl Scouts in a special service.
The Daisies, Brownies and Juniors attending made trail mix to hand
out to the congregation, and the next day the Cadettes and Seniors
weeded the church flower beds as a thank you for hosting their
meetings.

troop sent for the Thinking Day postcard
exchange.
March/April
Pete Jr. spent about a
month and a half with Junior Troop 290 in Lowell, Massachusetts. He
was there in time to go with the troop to visit the Mayflower and
Plymouth Rock and to go camping overnight at Plimoth Plantation. He
also met up with online friends of the troop-Brownie Troop 389 from
Plymouth Bay GSC, and he earned his Picnic Patch.
He had a lot of fun when
the girls went to a local garden center for a tour and helped them
work on their "Doing Hobbies" badge. Fortunately he could stay with
the troop a little longer and was able to attend the Spar &
Spindle Council's Meeting & Recognition Dinner. The troop was
asked to sing and Pete Jr joined in along with the
girls.

May
Pete Jr is spending the month
with Junior Troop 257 in Richmond, Virginia. He went camping with the
troop on his first weekend there. As usual, it rained most of the
weekend!
The troop picked the waterfall
crest and the rumored curse connected to this crest has proven true
for them. It has rained for at least part of every camping trip they
have been on. Pete Jr had a good time though and he made some SWAPS
that he took to trade at the 85th anniversary parade at the state
capitol in Richmond. He also got to attend a service unit fly up for
the third grade brownies.
June
Brownie Troop 298 from
North Carolina hosted Pete Jr this month. He went to Myrtle Beach and
saw an Elvis impersonator and visited an alligator farm. He also made
an unplanned visit to the emergency room with one of the girls, which
fortunately turned out okay. He also had a lot of fun on the rides at
a local amusement park. But unfortunately he couldn't stay for the
troop's end of year ceremony. He's going to go back home to his troop
to relax over the summer and get ready for next year's
adventures.
September
Pete Jr started off the year by
visiting with Cadette Troop 877 in Portland, Texas. Their troop is
nicknamed "Troop Beverly Hills". He thoroughly enjoyed stopping off
at Dairy Queen on the way to the Older Girl Planning Board meeting.
He loved pounding the gavel!
October/November/December/January
Pete Jr spent a few months with
Brownie Troop 10 in Tulsa Oklahoma. He earned 3 Try-Its with the
troop-"My Flag, My County and Me", "Patriotism" and "Peaceful Living"
which are all Black Diamond Council patches. Two more Try-Its were
earned at the Discovery Zone where he had so much fun, they had to
drag him home. He also made love boxes for needy children and
blizzard bags for meals on wheels, as well as being a very good
seller of GS calendars at their booth sale.
1999
February
Chapel Hill, North Carolina was
Pete Jr's next stop where he stayed with combined Brownie/Junior
Troop 74. He got there just in time to help out with cookie sales. He
is getting quite good at selling things, & the troop raised
enough money to pay for the upcoming Camporee and a fall camping trip
to the mountains. At their Valentine meeting, he made his own pin
which the girls are giving to their adopted grandparents at the
nursing home.
For Thinking Day their council
celebrates "Different Shoe Day" where the girls can earn a patch
while learning about the diversity of people. The troop made 2
different boots for Pete Jr so he could participate in this event.
Pete Jr enjoyed going to a UNC
Women's basketball game which was followed by a lacrosse clinic. He
also went to the Service Unit meeting with the leader as well as a
trainer's conference. Many of the leaders had never heard about
mascots before and he helped to spread the word.
March/April
Pete Jr made his longest trip
this month-all the way to Juneau, Alaska to visit Junior Troop 28. He
learned they don't live in igloos, and can only travel outside their
city by boat or airplane-there are no roads, so you can't drive by
car. Nipper their troop's wolf mascot, acquainted him with the area.
Pete Jr. also helped the girls work on their collector's badge and
plan a future trip to the Yukon.
May/June
Pete Jr. visited two troops on
this trip-Brownie Troop 1182 and Cadete Troop 21 in Auburn, NY. He
was there when the Brownies made bookmarks, and for the ceremony when
they flew up to Juniors. Memorial Day was very hot-95 degrees, but
Pete Jr and the girls marched proudly in the parade
anyway.
July
Pete Jr joined Cadette Troop
2473 in Crofton, Maryland for a very special trip this month. They
were going to visit GS birthplace in Savannah, Georgia.
