Here you'll find something about groups or organizations including those mentioned in the Upcoming Events section that don't already have a description by the activity or another link to the description. The purpose for this is to acquaint you as much as possible with some excellent ministries going on in and around central IN.
Emmaus/Discipleship Walk -
Emmaus retreats come out of the Catholic Cursillo movement. Some churches use another version called the Discipleship Walk. (I've also heard it called by another name which eludes me now.) They are wonderful, encouraging retreats, the kind you only go on once. There are separate retreats for men and women. Ideally husbands and wives attend retreats within a close time-frame so they can share experiences with one another with understanding. A sponsor helps if your family needs anything while you are away.
The intent of the retreat is to be secluded so you are not distracted from what God wants to do in you. If there's an emergency, you normally don't come back to the retreat - you just reschedule. (There is a fee, but often there are scholarships available for those who can't swing it financially.) I encourage you who are invited to go meet your God there. If you are interested but aren't invited, you can inquire at some Baptist, Methodist, Christian, and Assembly of God churches (those are the ones I know of that have done them) to see if they have a version of this retreat, and people who would be willing to sponsor you. I don't think you'll be sorry.
Women Aglow -
Women Aglow is an organization for spirit-filled women that was started by four women in a living room in Seattle, WA, 31 years ago. Since then, it has begun chapters in over 138 nations around the world.
Aglow cares about helping today's women draw close to God to find life and hope in Him. Aglow is a safe place for you to seek answers, to discover who God is and who you are. It is a place where women minister to women, because who understands a woman's world better than another woman?
The Women Aglow mission is to lead women to Jesus Christ and provide opportunity for Christian women to grow in their faith and minister to others.
The Northside (Indianapolis) Chapter of Women Aglow meets the second Friday of every month at Laughner's Cafeteria in Nora (1616 E. 86th). The meeting starts at 11:00 AM with lunch. It consist of announcements, a guest speaker, praise and worship and a time of ministry. Newcomers are welcome.
For information about the five other chapters in the central IN area, please contact Debbie Specht, president of the East Central Area Board at (317)787-5949.
