DANCE OF YOUTH

Twirling around left then to the right

Watching her -- such a pretty sight

Youthful innocent in her teens

Honesty of motion lovingly seen

Her smiling face her radiant glow

As I watch her -- impromptu show

Casually dressed for her age

Friends gather as if; she were on a stage

Pleated skirt swaying to and fro

As if it knew not -- which way to go

Blouse of blazing red -- a trifle askance

Forever in my mind this sight entranced

White and brown saddle shoes -- of our time

Cleaned and polished so very prime

Memories saved and cherished

Return -- live it over -- fervently wished

Lunch hour -- as if it were spent yesterday

Fifty years ago while we were at play

Through my minds eye this seen and more

All of which has gone before

This a day in nineteen forty four
