A Thousand Tomorrows
As the late summer sun sets on America today
Reflecting the smoke now gradually drifting away
We see the grief and the pain upon your faces
As your tear brimmed eyes survey those places
Where the heart and soul of our home our land
Was shattered in a moment by an unseen hand
We were not ready our earthly home to leave
And though we know that you all must grieve
To the future you must look and never behind
For the sake of future generations and mankind
For we soar now with eagles, the wind in our face
No longer are we bound to that earthly place
You may mourn our passing with tears and sorrow
As you remember for us, there will be no tomorrow
But for us there will be many thousand tomorrows
Without pain, hatred, anger, bigotry and sorrows
Our brows will never again be furrowed with care
While we journey on to eternity, leaving you there
To forever wonder why, the unspeakable horror of it all
In memory of those of us who died do not falter, do not fall
Take up the sword of democracy we can no longer wield
Continue the battle for freedom, and to the foe never yield
In the darkness of the night in the golden light of each day
Carry our memory with you and a gentle prayer for us say.
With deepest respect....
