Peter Hampson & Mary Yates

Peter HAMPSON was chr Apr 26 1786 in Leigh Lancashire,
the son of William HAMPSON & Lydia CHADDOCK.

Mary YATES was born abt 1788 near Leigh Lancashire.

Peter was a widower when he married Mary YATES.
He had 1st married Mary EDGERLEY on Nov 15 1807 in Leigh
and she died between 1810 and 1813.

Peter & his 1st wife had 2 sons:
i) George chr Apr 9 1808

ii) Samuel chr Apr 21st 1810
Samuel appears in the 1881 CENSUS
At that point, he was 71 yrs old
living at 24 Higginson Street, Bedford Leigh
along with his unmarried daughter Mary, age 40.
Both Samuel & daughter Mary were listed as 'unemployed silk weavers'.

Peter & Mary had 6 children, all christened at Wesleyan Methodist Bedford Leigh:

1) Lydia chr Nov 23 1817
married Robert BILSBURY Sep 8 1839 at St Mary's Leigh (7 children)
(He was the son of Robert BILSBURY & Ellen FARNWORTH)

2) James chr Jun 28 1818
3) Ann chr Aug 9 1819
4) Mary chr Oct 8 1821
5) Robert chr Jan 17 1825

6) Peter chr Sep 7 1826
married Miriam or Marianne abt 1864 (3 sons)
In the 1881 Census, he is listed as 'Foreman Coalman~Locomotive
and in the 1901 Census, he is listed as 'retired railway coach maker'.

At his daughter Lydia's wedding, Peter is listed as a 'weaver' and deceased
so we know he died before 1839 and unfortunately cannot be found on any Census :-(

It is unknown at this time when Mary died.

Peter HAMPSON & Mary YATES were my 5X Great Grandparents !!
