Margaret Horan Farrimond ~My Emerald Isle Connection ~ ![]() |

HORAN ~ from O'Hodhrain (Gaelic), "descendant of the young, pale one".
My GR GR grandmother Margaret HORAN,
was the daughter of John HORAN.
Margaret was born abt 1850
towards the latter part of the Great Potato Famine
in the South of Ireland.
At some point after Margaret's birth,
her father, John, took his family and moved to England,
settling in the area around Wigan Lancashire.
According to the 1871 Census,
Margaret was living as a lodger
with a Mr James Green and family which included himself & his wife,
3 children and three lodgers all in a small terraced house.
By the time Margaret married,
her father John was already deceased.
Although the FARRIMOND family can be traced back to the 1500's in Wigan
and have always been of the Church of England,
Thomas FARRIMOND & Margaret HORAN
were married in St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Wigan,
most likely because of Margaret's Irish ancestry.
The marriage was performed by Father Hugh MacCormack on July 31 1871.
The witnesses were Peter Murphy & Margaret Dunigan.
