Martha Dickenson Haddock
~ My Cheshire Connection ~

My GR GR grandmother Martha DICKENSON,
was born Aug 9 1862 in Canal Bank Runcorn, Cheshire
which is about 30 miles from Atherton Lancashire.

Martha was the daughter of
Jonathan DICKENSON (born 1837-39 in Winsford Cheshire)
and Mary BILSBURY (born abt 1841 in Lancashire)
who were married between Apr - Jun 1858
and this was registered in the district of Manchester.

At the time of Martha's birth, Jonathan was a boatman.

Jonathan DICKENSON died between Jul - Sep 1872 in Leigh Lancashire.

According to the 1881 Census,
the young widow Mary DICKENSON was living at Astley Green in Astley
with Martha's 4 siblings:
George born 1860 in Winsford Cheshire
Lydia born abt 1865 in P__ Lancashire (possibly Parr)
Ann born abt 1869 in Leigh Lancashire
James born abt 1870 in Leigh Lancashire


At this point, I haven't been able to discover the date of a marriage
for Martha to anyone with the surname HADDOCK,
but it is known that sometime between Oct-Dec 1885,
a John HADDOCK, aged 25 years, died in the district of Manchester.

Perhaps he was the husband of Martha and she was left
awaiting the birth of their child in a few month's time.


My GR grandmother, Mary HADDOCK, was born May 30 1886
at the Union Workhouse in Atherton.

I know that Martha Dickenson HADDOCK remarried at some point after John's death,
because my GR grandmother had a half-sister named Ann(ie) who was born abt 1900.

At this point, I am trying to contact Annie's only child, who is still living.

My GR grandmother, Mary HADDOCK,
married Noah THOMASON between Apr to June 1906 in Atherton.
(Noah was born in 1883 in Barton nr Eccles,
the son of John THOMASON & Esther TICHBORNE)
