John & Christian had 7 children, all christened at Borenich Farm, Blair Atholl:

married Margaret STEWART abt 1812 in Auchgoul
Alexander & Margaret had 5 children:
Isobel, John, Robert, James, Christian
4) Duncan chr Jan 18 1785
5) James chr Oct 7 1787,
* married 1st about 1820 to Elizabeth STEWART
James & Elizabeth had 6 children:
Christina Ann, Alexander, John, Robert, Margaret Elizabeth, James
* married 2nd about 1847 to Janet McGREGOR
James & Janet had only 2 children:
Janet, Mary

This STEWART family lived north of Loch Tummel at Borenich,
which was very close to Croftcarnoch.
Borenich, meaning 'a house in the ferns',
was a community which flourished until the early years of the 19th century
and by 1900, most of the settlements had been deserted and eventually disappeared.
We can safely assume that these STEWARTs were farmers.

Since their youngest, Neil, was born in 1792,
we know that John and Christian STEWART died sometime afterwards.
They were my GR GR GR GR grandparents !
John was descended from the Stewarts of Duntanlich, Drumcharry and Garth,
thereby having royal connections of the 'illegitimate ilk'....
