We got our Lil' Sam at an animal shelter on June 1, 1991. She was 5 months old and was already named "Lacey" - I didn't think she looked at all like a "Lacey" - she looked more like a "Sam" - so we renamed her "Samantha" and of course call her "Sam" for short!

She's a mix breed of (her mother) Basset Hound and (her father) Schipperke, which is a small black belgian sheep dog. They were bred for catching and eliminating rats on ships back in the 1700's or so. This mix makes her very interesting and unusual - most people's reaction to her is that she is a large daschaund - she is long and has a long snout with long ears, but she has a chopped tail - she was born that way because Schipperke's don't have tails.

She is a "howler" and has been known to sing Happy Birthday over the phone - I think she is capable of hitting a "High C"! :o) One of her cutest traits is that she loves to "bury" her bones/treats all over the house (especially laundry baskets) and then comes to get me to find them! She also loves to play hide 'n seek.

She is our baby and we absolutely LOVE her! She has a very gentle nature and at the same time is quite frisky! :o)
