I sort of blackmailed (emotional extortion is a wonderful thing) my Mom into agreeing to get a dog while I was helping her out and staying with her in Ohio. We went to the Humane Society one Saturday and saw all types of puppies. Of course the one I liked peed on my Mom and looked too much like our last dog to make the cut. We then browsed through the older dogs and saw Max there. He was so striking looking (all black with the diamond of white on his chest and just a touch of white on his paws). Well my Mom's conditions for a new dog didn't meet Max's profile. She wanted a sweet docile female puppy. Max (or Maverick as he was called then) was already 6 months old, male and very active! Well we went home that day to think about stuff, but we agreed to return the next day.
The next day we went back and to our surprise most of the puppies were already claimed. But Max was still there howling away when we approached, and so I asked to get him out of his cage to check him out! He was so hyper and active that it was sort of scary! I chalked it up to his being in a cage for 4 months though (he was only 2 months old when they brought him in). Eventhough my Mom was reluctant about it all, I put a hold on Max. So we then had 24 hours to either claim him or forget about it.
Monday was the day of talking my Mom into it! She finally relented when she thought about his extended stay at the shelter and how long it had been and what might happen to him if we didn't adopt him. She still claims that we got him on a trial basis and could have returned him, but that's not how I remember it. Maybe I just told her that LOL! Anyway, she went out of town the next day and I was left to paper the house and train Max by myself. A very long, messy week, I must admit! But well worth it! Max is one of the best things that has ever happened to me, and I can't wait till he is out here in Cali with me.
