FORD
Ford family
Honora O'Leary and John Ford were married in County Cork. We have been unable to trace the family of John Ford. He was drafted into the army of Queen Victoria, involuntarily, and left Ireland with his young pregnant wife to join her brother who was living in Wheeling, West Virginia. They stopped in Cardiff, Wales enroute to the U.S. and my grandmother, Margaret Ford was born there on September 29, 1857. They sailed when she was three weeks old. Her mother had a supply of lemons, and they were instrumental in keeping her from being seasick. Honora died when Margaret was about ten years old, and her father remarried. Margaret became an apprentice to a dressmaker in Wheeling when she was twelve, and learned the trade. She became an accomplished seamstress, with a wonderful sense of style. She was invited to make a trip to West Liberty, Ohio with a Dr.s family to sew for their girls, and to be a part-time governess. In West Liberty she met Dominic Bradley whose family had a farm, and married him. More information about their family is on the Bradley page.O'LEARY
This photo has my grandmother's handwriting. It was taken in Franklin Pennsylvania in 1879. The older woman is her Aunt O'Leary, the wife of one of her mother's brothers. The younger woman was her cousin, and the man her husband. His name was Jude Rairdon (Reardon?). It was Will Brothers, Photographers. |
