QUILT GALLERY

I have started a new adventure in my sewing room. It is "Quilting!" I wasn't sure if I would like quilting or not but quickly discovered how addictive it can be. I am now hooked.

The top three quilts were my first projects made in 2001. The fourth quilt was made in March of 2003. I made two lap quilts for my husband and a lap quilt for my mother in 2003 but don't have pictures of them yet. I did have a long lull in between my quilts. I went like a wizard and kind of burned myself out. They are all machine quilted. I don't think I am quite ready for the old fashion hand quilting that takes many moons to finish. I like results much sooner than I could produce a quilt by hand. I have picked a name to suit each and every quilt.

I just finished a quilt with free motion design quilting. It is hand applique flowers in baskets. The binding still has to be hand sewn and then it will be ready to snap a picture for my quilt gallery. I do believe it is the best work I have done. Accomplishing the free motion design quilting was a celebration. There were several hours of practice and sample squares and then all of a sudden it just seemed to fall into place. The free motion design quilting is much more fun than meandering or quilting in the ditch. Truly an enjoyment to me.

I have really been busy quilting this summer of 2003. I have completed six quilts, the hand applique quilt, a flannel quilt, eight quilts for grandchildren for this coming Christmas and a wedding quilt. I get these projects going and just can't seem to stop until they are finished.

In August of 2004 I started my own quilting business. I began by quilting for a local quilt shop and also have given free motion quilting classes. Click here to go to the

This is my first quilt. Completed and washed, the quilt measures 84 x 100 and is made from the pattern called "Garden Twist" by Sharon Yenter.

"Mother's Memory"

I made this quilt for my daughter for her birthday. She is going to be quite surprised when she receives it because she doesn't know I am quilting. The quilt is a Nine Patch Variation Block and is 88 x 102. The picture does not do justice to the beauty of the quilt. The colors are much more vibrant and richer than it appears in the picture.

"Warm & Cozy"

This quilt is a lap quilt for my husband Lonnie. It is called the Log cabin block and measures 50 x 50 inches.

"Delectable Mountains"

This quilt was made for my daughter for her 38th birthday. The quilt pattern is from Time-Crunch Quilts by Nancy J. Martin. The size is a lap quilt 60 x 49 1/2 inches.

I also made a matching set of hot pads and pot holders for her kitchen to match the lap quilt. The set includes a large hot pad size 19" x 30", 2 small hot pads 7" x 8 1/2" and 2 pot holders 10 1/2" x 10 1/2".

"Flowering Baskets"

Here it is, my first hand applique quilt. The pattern is from the book "Grandmother's Garden Quilt" by Eleanor Burns and Patricia Knoechel. The size is 91 1/2" x 104". The baskets are pieced by machine and then the appliqued flowers and basket handle are sewn to the basket. The solid white on white blocks are free motion quilted with a feather motif. The blue border is stippled and the white on white border is free motion leaf and vine motif. This was a fun and interesting quilt. Each basket has different flowers.

"Jazz Matazz & Skip To Malou"

Both quilts are from the pattern "Woven Ribbons" from the "PS I Love You Baby Collection" by Lynda Milligan and Nancy Smith.
The pattern called for 4 different prints but I used only three.
I also enlarged the size of each block and made the quilts larger by increasing the border widths. The finished size of each quilt is 66" x 101". I made the quilts to be used as twin bed spreads over a dust ruffle. I am going to make matching envelope pillow shams.
The quilts are a surprise Christmas present for two of my granddaughters. "Jazz Matazz" for Elizabeth and "Skip To Malou" for Andrea.

"Sweet & Sassy"

Sweet n' Sassy is a lap quilt I machine quilted for my granddaughter, Katie for a Christmas gift. The lap quilt size is 42" x 49". The pattern is from "PS I Love You Baby Collection" by Lynda Milligan and Nancy Smith.
It is straight set blocks with sashing and setting squares. I think the colors are absolutely yummy.

"Ships Ahoy"

The Ships Ahoy quilt is for my grandson, Tony for a Christmas gift. The lap quilt size is 46" x 54". It is 6" blocks of sailboats alternating with nine patch blocks set straight with sashing and setting squares.
The pattern is from the "PS I Love You Baby Collection" by Lynda Milligan and Nancy Smith.

"Flannel Flowers"

This quilt has a flannel top and backing. The lap quilt size is a 3" block and finished measures 44 1/2" x 53". This quilt was made from leftover fabric from another quilt. I don't have a picture of it but it is very similar to this one and is called "Sunshine Meadow". The pattern is from "More Fat Quarter Quilts" by M'Liss Rae Hawley. The quilt is a triple rail on point. This was my first experience working with flannel and I sneezed through the construction of it. Doubtful if I will do another flannel quilt.

"Sugar Maples"

The pattern is from "Sugar House Quilts" from Thimbleberries by Lynette Jensen. The quilt size is 91" x 101". It is machine quilted with stitch in the ditch and meander free motion quilting on the borders.

"Swag Curtains"

We have moved from our home in Sebring, Fl. and moved to Naples, Fl. so that meant making new curtains where we didn't put shutters on the windows. In between making the last 5 quilts above I had to stop and make the swag valance curtains for the lanai sliding doors. One panel consists of two swags that you see in this picture. There are 5 panels 49" wide with 9 jabots and 2 end swags that go across the sliding doors. The pattern is by Simplicity Home #8803. It was a very easy pattern to make. The hardest part for me was the math to figure the size the panels should be to cover the area perfectly. I had to adjust the width of the pattern some to accomodate 20 feet 9 inches of window to be covered.
