Life as a kid with a military family was a very unique experience. We always made new friends after we moved to a new base and like most other military "Brats"
we soon had to leave them behind as we moved on to another "reservation". The years at WSMR for me was a time in my life that I will never soon forget.

Our family moved there in May of 1972 and stayed put until Dad's retirement in 1980. When I look back, sometimes I feel the one thing I missed the most was not spending the summers at White Sands Missle Range. However, I did enjoy the pleasure of having spent one summer there and that was the same year we arrived. I played baseball and then settled in for my first school year at White Sands Junior High. I was a seventh grader! I guess that made me an official Mustang! Going to a new school at times was a scary experience but I think we all made the best of it. Some of us didn't get the honor of attending the junior high school and that meant we attended Mayfield High School in Las Cruces....and was that ever a big change! We found the students made up many different cliques and we "White Sands" people pretty much stuck together. We were family.....but we certainly had our differences at times.

Looking back through the years I find little "remembrances" I have of each and every person I knew. We all did crazy things at one time or another and until reminiscing with my classmates at our recent 20 year reunion, I realize today what was cool or hip then was indeed, at times, actually quite stupid. I think back and realize what was most important to me was having shared the experience with others in those great growing up years that I won't ever soon forget. Although we are all spread throughout the country and have families of our own, as far as I'm concerned you "guys" are still family to me. Right on!
