A Daughter's view of the Mother's Love
As I think of my mother, what comes to mind?
The time that she spent feeding and changing her new baby girl.
The hopes and the dreams of the wonderful times to come, filling the mother's mind.
As her new baby girl began to grow,
Loving words of encouragement were so often heard.
First steps attempted with loving arms to catch.
Soon it was seen that the nature of her baby girl would be one of curiosity.
Discipline it had to be, for the curiosity, with a loving, caring hand administered.
Songs were sung, stories were told.
Hugs and kisses were freely given.
Cookies were baked as her new baby girl grew.
Soon it was time for something new.
School began, with the big yellow bus.
There were assemblies and parties and parent teacher conferences
Girl scouts and band and always baton to attend.
Home had changed too, that little girl had become a young lady with so much to teach.
The mother so caring tried always to spare her young lady from heartache and heartbreak.
Her young lady had hopes and dreams of your own,
Not always extending past the end of the day.
Time went on with sleepovers and dances
But always a chaperone there needed to be.
The mother always content to stand back and watch
Waiting for the time to nurture, comfort and teach.
The curious little girl had become a challenging young lady
The roller coaster ride had begun for the poor mother.
Not knowing whether to hug or to spankv
To ground or let slide.
Was this just a phase of life, with no need for concern?
Perhaps it was more
A personality for life that needed some taming.
Would we even make it through?
High school soon came and all the tears that it brought.
The calls from the boys soon began
No dating for you its much too soon so often rang through the house
That’s when we fought.
Though there was fighting and crying and yelling and grounding and stomping and slamming.
There always was love that was there for the taking.
Graduation Day was approaching too quick.
But, graduation was not the focus of the daughter you see,
Her mind was on marrying.
What a surprise for the mother. She wanted to marry.
She wanted to what? Oh I don't know was the mother's response,
At such a young age and I would have to sign.
What if it is a mistake? Will I be all my fault?
Will I ruin her life? By Yes or by No?
So many questions, so few answers.
The boy is real nice and she likes him a lot.
The daughter is waiting to set the date.
What will it be? The week before I am 18 or week after I am 18?
She knows that I love him, what is taking so long?
It's only her name, I don't understand.
The mother had made a decision at last.
The daughter had made a decision to last.
The papers were signed, and turned over to God.
Only in His hands lay the future.
The mother's young lady had become a woman
No longer her own.
She had a husband and a home.
As a mother she had done all she could do.
But with love in her heart, encouragement on her tongue, a hug in her arms and a prayer on her lips
She'd always be there as a friend.
As the daughter grew even more out on her own
She learned more and more than she ever did know, the hopes and the dreams of the woman, her mother.
The one time baby daughter, now calls with the news
She is going to be a mom now and needs her moms views.
Time goes on as it always does
The baby grows soon there's another.
There have been good times and bad,
But we've made it so far.
The mother is always there to encourage and love
To tell her daughter what a good mother she is.
Being the daughter I know it is true
I'd not be that mother if it weren't for you.
Thank you so much for the things that you've done
For the love that you've shown for instruction and correction.
I know that you're there for me
No matter how near or how far
Our hearts closely linked with a bond that's so strong
Thank you again for the things that you've done.
If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be me.
I love you Mom
Your Daughter
