The American Favorites section is where we have placed recipes for dishes that have become American favorites; these recipes are for foods that are enjoyed by many people throughout this great country of ours. In this particular section, I won't assign a specific part of the country as being the origin of the recipe.
At the bottom of this page, you will have an opportunity to E-mail us and give us your thoughts on this page. We encourage this. After all, we will be tailoring this "Cooking Around the World" series according to the wishes of our viewers.
1 recipe for American white-bread 1 T soft butter dough (see table for recipe) 2 T melted butter -----------------------------Prepare the dough as described in the American White Bread recipe up to the point where it has risen for the second time. With a pastry brush, lightly but thoroughly grease each cup of two 12-cup muffin tins with 1 T of soft butter. Pinch off small pieces of the dough and shape them into small balls, rolling them between your palms until they are about ½-inch in diameter. Arrange 3 balls closely together in each muffin cup, cover the tins with a dry kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place (about 25 minutes) until each roll reaches the top of the pan.
Preheat the oven to 425°. Brush the dough with the melted butter and bake in the middle of the oven for 10 to 15 minutes until the rolls are golden brown. Test for doneness by inserting a toothpick in a roll; it should come out dry and clean. Remove the rolls from the tins and serve them while they are still hot and crusty. Makes 24 rolls.
