Directions for playing the Scrabble CD Rom v.2
Via Direct IP
(Print out directions, if first time playing)(rev Saturday, October 18, 2003)
Finding IP address if you are Host: Changes everytime you connect to internet
In ICQ under Security & Privacy you check the box
by: Web Aware - Allow users to view my online presence.
This way your IP will show each time you connect so that the other player can copy it
and send to you in a message.
Good News! Scrabble v.2 CD shows you your IP address
You can then use Window key or Alt+Tab to take you back so you can paste it
in window for joining player.
I have Scrabble® v.2 CD Rom on an HP xt993 machine running Windows® XP
This version supports hi-color graphics so there is no need for a color patch
for 256 color mode. There is a cd-less patch available for download for those
who cannot remember to put the CD in the drive.
Directions for connecting over the Internet:
1. Load your "Scrabble® v.2 CD Rom by Hasbro"
Click on Start Network Game
Now Click on Your Player Name and OKAY
2. The Next screen will say
Host Multi-Player Game
Join Multi-Player Game
and across the bottom will be this;
IPX TCP/IP and Internet Modem toModem
Choose TCP/IP and Internet
Host player: copy the IP address, write it down so you can type into
chat window for other player.
Type in a name for session, (could be joining players' name) click Start
At this point you will see the Player screen, do nothing, it will show your name as Player 1
And will be setup to wait for Player 2 to join the game.
*********************************
Now use Alt+Tab or Windows key and return to chat.
Type in or paste your IP address in a message to player or chat window
Go back to game and wait patiently, doesn't usually take more than a few seconds but
be prepared to wait a bit longer in case joining player has problems.
Joining player: Needs to write down hosts IP number.
Open Scrabble v.2 CD game then click your Player name and Okay
On the next Screen (same as above) click Join Multi-Player Game
TCP/IP Internet should also be highlighted, Click Okay
and then put host IP address
(example 152.999.99.99)in indicated spot.
WAIT until you see a name in the window / box on the left under Session
Click on the Name in Session then Click - Connect button at bottom right.
It should be about 30 seconds to get connected; you should
wait about 1 to 3 minutes,
for new players who have never connected before.
It will say looking for host or remote, and when connected
will say, getting data from player 1 or 2.
Once you are connected the game begins.
Time Limits - There is a 25 minute time allowance for each player.
I practiced timer offline so I can play an entire game in 5-15 minutes, seldom
exceeding 12 minutes on my timer. Every minute over 25 is -10 points so this is
incentive to learn to play faster.
Player Dropped - This is the message given to each player on occasions when
one or the other is for some reason disconnected. The advantage of Direct IP play
is that you can rejoin host and complete game instead of restarting the game.
The game saves your spot, Host will also have option of saving the game.
End of Game - At end of game, if both players are stuck with letters;
you both must pass 3 times in a row to end game before winner screen comes up.
There is a bug in v.2 which sometimes will hold several tiles in the bag near the end of
game instead of giving them to the player whose turn it is.
For this reason I suggest - check remaining tiles often especially when there are many
on the board already played (there are only 100 tiles total)
If you see say 3 tiles in bag and you have less than 7 on your rack,
make a sound to warn other player, there are sounds built in the game,
Both players shall pass once, the remaining tiles will be given to the correct player.
Advantages of Direct IP Play
1. Few to None Disconnects
2. Ability to Save then resume a game, rather than having to start over
3. Fewer disputes over who 'might' have won
