~~~~~~~
It was once said of another brother minister that if you kicked him in the shins, he would say, "Excuse me." Brother Wannie was one humble soul of this sort.
If you travelled with Brother Wannie, he travelled a lot, you would have known his temperment and disposition upon the road in different trying circumstances. His conversation was bent toward God's goodness as he could relate to it through the many ups and downs of life--having survived the great depression.
Brother Wannie was a businessman to his own hurt. The customer was always right and Brother Wannie did not make any bad deals. Whatever it took to make something right in the business world, he did it.
He virtually lived the Scripture which says, "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold" (Prov 22:1 KJV). Or "A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth" (Eccl 7:1 KJV).
Who is there to say he did not live his life as he perceived Christ would have him live it? I think, no one!
He served churches in Alabama, Tenneesse and Indiana, if there were more, I am not aware of it or else I just don't remember.
In youth camps, Brother Wannie was known for his continuing attitude of gentle, common sense counsel and Godly wisdom. The aroma of "cedar shavings" was usually the place where the "whittling" crew was headed up by Brother Wannie.
I will not attempt a focus upon any of the high points of his life. Suffice it to say,
"He was a Christian then and more in the image of the Son today."
However, not in the common terminology of the day. He believed IN Christ--not about Him only. He understood the actuality of THE literal Christ coming into this world as a propitiation for those whom God had given Him. He believed in election, predestination and the effectual call. His hope as was Abraham's anchored in the Almighty. The one and only true and living God.
Thank God his warfare, suffering and looking through a glass darkly is over. He is now basking in the reality of God's eternal being. Complete, finished and knowing full well what the meaning of those words were when Christ said them so many years ago,
"It is finished."
(John 19:30, KJV).
