This is a Budgie

Friends
A budgie's lifespan is about 10 years from what I am told and I can find. I have no other information about how long they live unfortunately.

This is a picture of Figero and Lucky. Figero is a budgie and Lucky is a cockatiel. They are inseperable friends, except when Lucky goes into her nesting period each year for a few weeks.

Due to my exceptional photography skills these pictures have been produced with a slight haze to enable you to experience the mistery of these birds.

I have found that the budgie is a bit more territorial then the cockatiel. However they still will co-habit with other birds and will be lonely if they are seperated. If seperated, each will call to eachother until they are reunited.

All birds love to explore as they are doing in this picture. If they feel comfortable in the new setting they will explore, peck, and turn over anything that peeks their interrests! They will also eat your homework! (Personal experience)
WOW! Bread!!!
WOW!!! LOOK FIGERO BREAD!!! Quick Figero come over here before I eat all this!

This is one of the treats that these birds love and share together. Supervision was given to ensure that the birds would not try to eat the plant behind them in this picture. As noted in, "What do I feed a Cockatiel or a Budgie", some household plants are poisonous so keep the birds away from household plants to ensure their health.
ButtonPhysical Characteristics:
Budgies are a small bird measuring about 9 inches long from the top of their head to the end of their tail. Full grown they weigh about 55 grams. These birds are probably the most colorful birds in existance! They come in a multiplicty of colors. Figero (my Budgie) is the more typical green with a yellow head. However this bird has a blue haze across its body when viewed in the sun. He also has a brilliant blue and yellow tail. Budgies as I said can be yellow, blue,or green with a combination of all these colors! Budgies have a marking that is however common to all birds. It is the, "Teardrop" blue markings below the eyes on both sides of their head. They also have a distinctive black striped pattern across their heads that flows down their backs. However this pattern will receede backwards across the budgie's head as the bird grows older. Still as the bird ages it is common for their crest to whiten. (And we all thought that male pattern baldness was only for man!) OK OK, they do not loose their feathers, they only change color.
ButtonMale budgies after they mature can easily identified by looking at the beak. At the top of the beak you will notice a raised area around their nose. For a male this area is light-blue and for the female of the species it is a light-brown.

ButtonBehavior:
Budgies are very affectionate birds. They, as all birds do, require personal time to be tame. These little ferocious beasts will attack anything that moves, or doesn't, it really does not matter to them! One problem with this behavior is that their little beaks do not have the power behind them to carry out their threats! In other words about all they can do to you if they decide to attack is a harmless pinch. They really are not that vicious, but they like to make you think they are! Anyway, they love to eat anyhting you are eating and can easily learn the sound of a bag of chips being opened, and beware from that time forward! They will fly/walk out of their cage when given the chance to join you as you are eating their favorite food. They will be happy and sing as they share with you! Budgies are fairly quiet except for when they do not want to be. Most the time they are either quiet or happily and quietly singing to themselevs. Occasionally they will become loud to attract your attention, or just to annoy you and your comapny that just happens to be visiting! Budgies are also very courious. They will investigate anything new, turning it over, tasting it if possible, or chew off the edge of any paper (homework) that may just be laying around that they find. Budgies also love to play, so include several things such as a mirror, beads, swings, and possibly several sticks (pirches) that they can jump around on. Basically any bird toy that you can buy at a pet shop will do just fine.

ButtonCare:
Be prepared to spend time with your bird. They enjoy your company and get lonely easily. They do not require a lot of time but they require consistant time. Talk to them and hold them every day, and spend at least 30 minutes to an hour with them every day. This does not have to be done in one setting, but can be broken up into several few minute sessions. Just let them know you care! :-)
You need to give them clean water daily along with fresh food. Remember even though they may still have water, they love to bathe in it, so the water needs to be changed. They also will poop in their food dish if it is not well placed, so again you need to clean out the seed dish daily. They also can only eat the seed on top so the hulls that remain should be blown off daily so they can easily get to the new seed to eat. Approximately once a week you should clean the bottom of the cage by removing the paper at the bottom of the cage and replacing that with new paper. This should be enough for cleaning, but sometimes the birds will not just poop on the paper, so periodic cleaning elseware may be required with a little more effort.

ButtonQuick Budgie Fact:
Wild Budgies are from the deserts of Austrailia.
Budgies live in the hot desert and can withstand harsh conditions. But they love their air conditioning!
