DO YOU HAVE AN ANSWER?

1PE 3:15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

A lot of people today do not understand why anyone would want to be a Christians. Many do not hesitate to explain their reasons for unbelief. We should be prepared to answer any questions people why we are Christians. We do not have to know the answer to all religious questions, although we should try to learn the answers we need to be an effective servant for Christ. In the verse above, all we are asked to provide is a reason for our hope. If we cannot explain why we have a hope in Christ, it would be very hard to expect someoe else to believe that Christianity is an important part of our lives.

ACT 5:27-29 Having brought the apostles, they made them appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he said. "Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's blood." Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men!

We should be bold when we answer someone who is bold in questioning us about our faith. The apostles response to the Sanhedrin was not one that was pleasing to their ears. This dod not keep them from being emphatic about what they believed. I am sure we have all had someone tell us something and we could tell they had no confidence in what they were saying. Let us be sure we are not like that in our statements about Christ.

LUK 12:11-12 "When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say."

Do not let fear hamper our responses to religious questions. The Holy Spirit will give us the assistance we need. Studying God's word is also an important part of strengthening our faith . Do we ask the Lord for assistance when we are in a situation where our own knowledge is insufficient? He will give us what we need in those situations.

MAT 22:11-12 "But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 'Friend,' he asked, 'how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' The man was speechless.

Let us make sure we do not find ourselves in the same boat as the man in the parable above. To be before God with no way to respond to Him would be a tragic situation indeed. I hope this brief lesson will help us(including myself) to think about these things as we are approached by those who don not understand why we are Christians.
