Dealing With Stains & Odors on Clothes
You might want to make up a stain removing kit. Enclude things like some old
white terry cloth towels, an old spoon or butter knife to scrape away the spill
and the following stain removers in small bottles.
Ammonia
White Vinegar
Diluted Bleach
Hydrogen Peroxide
Rubbing Alcohol
Acetone, this can be non-oily nail polish remover.
Dry-cleaning fluid such as Energine
What is that stain?
Do you ever have a stain that you don't know what it is or how it got there?
Here is something you can do to get them out.
Blot with cold water.
Blot with a wet sponge on which you have sprinkled a few drops of vinegar. Do
not use this on cotton or linen.
Blot with a wet sponge on which you have sprinkled a few drops of ammonia. Do
not use this on cotton or linen.
Blot with rubbing alcohol that has been diluted with an equal amount of water.
Rinse. Sponge whites with a solution of bleach and water.
Spotting Clothes On The Run
Put a pad of paper towels or a cloth under the spot, spot with water or water
and a little soap, then rinse or use a cleaning fluid. Then blow the spot dry
instead of letting it dry naturally, this will eliminate the water ring that
can appear from natural drying.
Neutralizing the Odor of Smoke in Clothes
To neutralize the odor of smoke in non-washable items, sprinkle the item with
baking soda and seal it in a plastci bag for a few days. For washable items,
soak clothes using a baking soda and water presoak.
Removing Mildew Spots From Fabrics
Rub mildew spots with lemon juice and salt and keep moist in strong sunlight
until spot fades. Diluted peroxide or vinegar can be used in the same way.
Always test in an inconspicuous spot to be sure no color bleaching occurs.
Beads & Sequins Clothing
If you have seguined or beaded clothing that are washable, here are some ideas
to keep them looking great.

If they button, button them completely and turn them inside out before
laundering.

If machine washable, use only the gentle cycle setting for only 2 to 3 minutes,
cold water and mild detergent.

If the item is hand washable, use mild laundry soap or a little shampoo and
cold water.
*
If the piece is knit or a sweater-type material, put a little hair conditioner
in the final rinse.
*
Always hang to dry, or lay flat, never dry in the dryer.
Freshening Beaded Clothes
Spritz lightly with undiluted vodka under arms of garment and around the neck
and cuffs. Hang to dry.
Dealing With Spills
Many beaded outfits are labeled spot clean only. Do this with a little club
soda or Energine cleaning fluid. This is available at most grocery stores.
Use any moisture sparingly and then use a blow dryer to dry the spot quickly
to avoid a moisture rings.
Freshening Velvets
Bring a pan of water, with a little ammonia added, to a boil on the stove.
Hold the garment over the steam from the boiling water with the nap side up.
DO NOT allow the garment to become wet. This will release creases and
wrinkles.
Spotting Men's Clothes
Use Energine cleaning fluid and the blow dryer to keep a moisture ring
from forming.
Old Stains on Colored Clothes
Make a solution of 2 cups warm water and 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Saturate
problem area. Let soak for 30 minutes to one hour. Rinse, then work in
Fels Naptha soap and launder as usual.
Removing Perspiration Odor From Clothes
Make a paste of baking soda and warm water and apply under the arms. Leave
on for several hours or overnight. There has been great success with with a
paste of borax and warm water rubbed into the odorous areas. Leave on at
least one hour or overnight. Launder as usual.
