My Giddings family were living in Fleet, Lincolnshire during the late 1700's. The furthest generation that I have gained research back to is that of my Gt Gt Gt Gt Gt Grandparents - Thomas Giddings (b.c 1767) and his wife Rebecca Watson (b.c 1767). They were married at Fleet, Lincolnshire on 5th March 1787. The family appear to have moved to March, Cambridgeshire between October 1791 and December 1793.Sarah Elizabeth Giddings

My Giddings connection is via my Gt Gt Grandmother - Sarah Elizabeth Giddings (1852-1925) (pictured left) who was the illegitimate daughter of Miss Elizabeth Giddings (1831-?) of March, Cambridgeshire. Elizabeth Giddings was the daughter of Daniel Watson Giddings (1798-1878) and Sarah Jane Franks (1803-1892) of March, Cambridgeshire. Sarah Elizabeth married my Gt Gt Grandfather - James Martin (1851-1934) at Providence Chapel, March on 13th January 1874. After Sarah's birth it is believed that Elizabeth Giddings married but this has not been confirmed at the present time.

Sarah Elizabeth and James Martin had twelve children. However, during the 1st World War they lost 2 sons: Herbert Martin - my Gt Grandfather - was killed in a train accident in France on his way home at the end of the War and his younger brother Albert Martin died as a Prisoner Of War in a German Coal Mine. They also lost a daughter - Emma Jane and her husband John William Goodge both within the space of a couple of weeks. All four of them lost their lives over a period of 11 months.
