Butte Creek

There is a little stream in Northern California. You drive thru a small town called Paradise in the mountains around Chico, to get to Butte Creek. You can drive right to the edge of the stream.
It is a wonderful place to go fishing, but ya have to know what the trout like here to catch them, unless you are satisfied to catch the planted trout, YUK .
Every hear of a lil bug called a Helgramite ? Well the German Brown Trout in Butte Creek LOVE them. It is a lil bug about and inch in length , blackish brown, and lots of lil legs. They live in the water under and around the rocks. How do you catch them so you can catch the trout?
First you need a big piece of window screen. I like to put two poles on the edges and nail the screen to them. Then you wade out into the steam and placing the screen into the water where the current is running. Then you have your fishing buddy go upstream a ways and start turning over the rocks . As he does the Helgramites wash down and into the screen. Pull the screen out of water and grab those lil suckers and put them in your bait box. Easy huh ? LOL

Now go get your gear cause you are ready. Use a long shank hook and a split shot weight about 8 inches above the hook. Take one of the lil buggies out of the bait box and run the hook thru his mouth and out his bottom. Moving to the stream, gently throw the scrumptious Helgramite out above a rock in the stream so that it will flow around and to the pool behind the rock.
That is where that hungry German Brown is waiting to Munch ! For Fun , walk back thru the camp ground with your string of Trout and smile at all the other fishermen as their jaws drop , cause they didn't catch anything using their lil salmon eggs, or worms, or spinners.
I love doing that !

Coming soon.....more great places to fish, and fishing jokes!
