This page is dedicated to my wonderful Grandmother.
June 17,1997
Up until three weeks ago, Gran had been an active healthy 65 year old lady, with a zest for life and an inner dignity and grace.
Her sense of humor, her practical jokes, and her determination to face becoming a senior citizen without losing her inner youth
have always amazed and made us proud of her.
Then just three short weeks ago, Gran fell very ill.
Apparently she had started bleeding a few weeks before she took ill, and not wanting to worry us, or perhaps thinking the
problem would go away by itself, she said nothing.
By the time we had found out and rushed her to the hospital, she was very weak.
Over the past few weeks, I have watched this woman I love and admire slowly wither.
Some days she seems better, and other days she takes a turn for the worse.
Tonight she was taken into CICU for chest pains. Luckily her blood results showed no
heart attack, which was the main worry of the doctors.
The cause of Gran's bleeding was a result of a severe case of Diverticulitis, which
had also got badly infected and caused a large abcess in her abdomen.
Sometimes I get very angry with the nurses, because they didn't know my Gran before
she came to the hosptial, they never saw her sit and play on the floor with my little cousin,
they never saw her hold a conversation with wit and intellegence, they were
never at the other end of her practical jokes that she loved to pull, especially on me.
All they see is an elderly woman who is too weak to get out of bed, and sometimes forgets
where she is or what is going on around her.
But I see that wonderful woman of three short weeks ago, the one I love.
I am placing a candle here for Gran, and praying for her everyday.
Praying that somehow God will see fit to heal her and make her well again.
