Defrag - Start - Run - defrag - Show Details
Scandisk - Start - Run - scandisk. Choosing to save is not necessary.
New File - My Computer - choose your drive - file - new - folder - name your folder
Copy to Floppy - Open file to be copied - insert floppy - open floppy drive under my computer -
click and highlight materials to be transferred - click once on highlighted area and drag to floppy drive.
(THIS WILL NOT erase your existing file, only copy it to the floppy.)
Upload from Floppy - either create and open a new file to transfer material to,
or open desired file to transfer material to - insert floppy and open under my computer -
click and highlight materials to be transferred - click once on highlighted area and drag to desired file.
Find a file - start - find - files or folders - enter file name or key segment of file...
(such as back for backup.doc or .mid for midi files) - choose drive to search - find now
Change display settings - start - settings - control panel - display
Erasing File or Folder - highlight selection to be deleted - hit delete key.
Retrieving Erased File or Folder - open recycle bin - highlight selection to be restored -
right click once on selection - restore (NOTE once recycling bin has been emptied,
a file or folder CANNOT be restored)
Emptying Recycle Bin - open recycle bin - file - empty recycle bin.
To discard only PART of information in recycle bin… open recycle bin -
highlight selected area to be discarded - hit delete button.
(NOTE once recycle bin is emptied, information cannot be restored)
Copy/Paste - highlight selected area to be copied over - hit Ctrl + C -
open file or area where copied information is to be deposited - click on desired area once -
hit Ctrl + V
(NOTE information can be copy/pasted from file to file and program to program in most cases)
Pinpointing Font Keys - start - programs - accessories - character map - select desired character -
click once and hold on a character to enlarge for easier viewing.
(NOTE some selections are only applicable by using the ALT + a number on keypad)
To apply a selected character to your document - with character map open, highlight selected character -
select - copy - return to desired document to receive character - click on desired area to receive character -
press Ctrl + V
