I have two white's tree frogs named Simon and Garfunkel! I love them! Every morning as my alarm goes off they begin to croak with it, coaxing me out of bed. I have had them for 6 months and love their company. I have a question i am considering a dif erent tank for my guys...But I don't know what temp i should keep the tank at. Their current tank is usually around 78-82 degrees. I am afraid with a bigger tank i won't be able to provide them with enough heat...especially since with the new 20 gal. i will have to use a screen top veresus a acrylic top (i have an acrylic top on my 12 gal hex where the live now) With the screen I cannot use a heat lamp. On the tank right now I have a 15 watt hood lamp and a heating pad. Did that make any sense and if it did ...Any Suggestions? Thanks so much! Looking forward to hearing from you...Fellow frog lover...Melanie

I have white's on order and am just now setting up my cage for them, but I do have six oriental fire-bellied toads that I have attempted to feed guppies to(I read some where that they would eat guppies) needless to say, I wound up having to disinfect my w ole tank because they spit them back and (not being visible) they molded! I am not an expert but I haven't had success with guppies in general. Not sure if that helps but I really enjoyed your web page, I am looking to setup one of my own soon.

Y'know, you could probably put links to amazon.com or those books on your Frog Literature page. That'd be pretty nifty. I keep Firebelly Toads, myself, but I like whites too. I just don't have the space for one right now (The firebellies are breeding!). Also, I used to have a hamster, so I'm a little esitqant about their feeding (don't they eat mice pinkies?). Oops - I've written more on this entry than on my English Final! Good site! P.S. Visit mine!

I already had two firebelly toads and had been wanting a White's Treefrog for a long time. I have been depressed lately and th frogs brought me out of the depression! One of my firebelly toads is the first toad I ever touched and I have been a frog lover ever since then (I even stoped getting warts after I touched a toad for the first time)!!! I named my White's Treefrog "Benji" and the other two "Fargo" and "Spud". With a total of five toads and treefrogs I go through around 30 crickets a week so I started breeding crickets.

Hi I just finnished reading your site and found it to be very informative. I have some questions that I hope you could answer. I am currently thinking about getting a White's Tree Frog.I was told by some people that the tree frogs don't need a heater, t ey can survive happily at room temperature. I was then told by someone else that they need a heater. I was also told that they can live in a 5 gallon aquarium because they don't move around much. I will have mine in a larger aquarium (around 10 gallons) a d was wondering if there were any other animals I could put in with them. Thanks for your time Sara

Hi! I just got my first White's tree frog, his name was Bernard before i laid eyes on him :). I saw the show you referred to in your autobiography page, where the White's jumped on his head and that was my inspiration to get one too!! i thought he said hat they could live to be 20/30.. but that seems awefully long for a frog... and a page i viewed recently said it was only about 10, what IS their expected life span?? Bernard is a little baby right now and i've got him set up in a little 2 1/2gallon te rarium, but it seems to suite him fine for the time being, i plan to upgrade him to a 16 high eventually, do you think i could keep 2 adults in one of those, and males won't be aggressive towards one another will they? right now i'm dusting his crickets /reptical, is it nessesary to use herptivite w/ it or is he getting sufficient nutrients? He's too small now to sex but i've heard him make little clicking sounds... u think maybe.....? ;) any way... i think your page is awesome! Maybe i'll see ya s meday when i'm living in australia! or maybe sooner when i go to rit :] , then you can meet Bernard!

*** Sorry, I tried to e-mail you, with tons of information, but your return
address keeps coming up with an error. (I tried AOL, prodody, etc as extensions) :(
So to make things short, no the White's are not a "rainforest" frog.
But, a very popular tree frog, The Red Eyed tree frog ("Agalychinis callidrya") is. ....as well as many poison arrow/dart frogs.
Alot will depend on the rainforest location that you are doing a report on.

Me again. I just came up with an idea for your page:a scavenger hunt. You have a crossword puzzle or something and the way to answer it is by searching your whole page to find it. William and Auzzie
*** Hmmmmm.... that actually sounds like an interesting idea for a contest(s).
Recently, I started a "trivia" contest idea, but havn't really gotten that far with it.
I was trying to gather a bunch of obscure questions (ranging from movie trivia to trivia
dealing with this web site). An example question was:

If you look really close at the background image on the "home" page of this site,
you will notice that there is something written below the frog's "hands" that I wrote.
What does it say?

Very hard to figure out (if not impossible).

My frog, Auzzie, makes a croaking sound when I cup my hands around him. I know this is because he does not like it, since comfort is a high policy for all White's, but does this indicate he is a male? William Mordecai and Auzzie
*** The White's male's will make a croaking sound at times (other than mating
season that is). My male Kermit, often makes some odd noises when I mist the
tank with a spray bottle, or play certain music, or when Peabody crawls over him
to get a better view of a cricket.
As far as I know, the female Whire's don't make any noise.I am sure that I must be wrong
about this, but I have seen almost nothing about the sounds that a White's female
makes. The only sourse I have seen about White's females sounds, is located on
The complete tree Frog Home Page (sounds section).

I've been surfin' white's sites all over the net and this one is the best. I love it. I must of "hoped" on your little site 8 times by now. I'm aproud owner of a White's named Auzzie, since he australian. I've entered several contest and am looking fo mor . That thing at the bottem, the thingy that counts times people have been on your site, does it really work? I would also like to now if I can put non-White's on the memorial, see, I have always been a frog fan, and I've had several other frogs I liked, a d they showed signs of liking me (not all though). Keep up the good work William Mordecai
*** Thanks for stoppin' by so many times. :) ...and CONGRATULATIONS
on being the proud owner of "Auzzie." Hopefully, I will be adding more
contests shortly. I just need to get some ideas, and find some prizes.
The "counter" for visitors works, but at times is not always accurate. :(
If you, or anyone else, would like to add any type of frog to the Memorial page,
that would be fine. I am just about ready to "add" it to this site. It has taken
alot of work (for only two almost complete entries), but hopefully
it will be worth it. Trying to create a tastefull page for a dearly departed froggy
takes alot of thought and reworking.

Great site! I'm very impressed with the data you've collected so far . Keep up the good work! I noticed that in the guest book the question of coloring kept popping up. Getting a "Blue" white's is part genetics and part enviromental. Most of the white's available now at pet stores and trade shows are either juvenile captive bred or sub-adult to adult Indonesian imports. The Indonesian varieties vary greatly depending on locale, with most that I have seen being brown to olive drab. This varies even with individual frogs depending on temp., humidity, and lighting conditions. If my frogs bask under an incandescent lamp for most of the day they take on a pale green tone. I also have an Indonesian white's that is almost always a bright jade color. The blue white's advertised by some breeders, "Whyte Ark Reptile, Sandfire Dragon Ranch, etc." are selectively bred for a more turquoise hue. This is genetic but the frogs still have a capacity for color change depending on enviroment. Any white's with light green coloring most of time will become more bluish when subjected to in- adequate light levels. I do not recommend keeping them in the dark just to achieve this color phase. In fact I believe this could be harmful to the frog. As for seeing one, the best pictures I know of were taken by Chris Lloyd,E-mail memnoch@indy.net His photos are world class! He purchased his frogs from a gentleman who had them featured on the cover f Captive Breeding Magazine. Chris's pictures are even more stunning than the cover of that issue. These frogs are very blue. I hope this helps some-body. Whyte Ark is a reputable dealer and usually has the blue white's. Their page is at http://www.herp.com/whyteark/whyteark.html I have five white's and have bought and sold countless others. If any one would like to ask me a question please E-mail me.
*** Thanks for all the great information!!!
