Golden Oldies Waiting for New Homes

Introduction

This page is devoted to the Golden Oldies. Dobermann Welfare has been fortunate enough to find fosters for a number of these Old Aged Pensioner's of the Dobe world - I have given details of them here and hope that their stories will inspire you to help.

The Dobermann Welfare Association has, from time to time, taken in dogs and bitches that are either too old to home, or have serious health problems that have made them impossible to home, although every effort to home the dog is made prior to them going on the scheme. It is a lot to ask a family to take on say, a ten year old dog, knowing that they can only expect at best, a few years of normal life with their new dog, and that they have to look forward to mounting veterinary bills, and eventual heartbreak. In all cases, veterinary advice is sought, and should the advice be that the dog should not continue by reason of ill health, then the dog is finally put to rest.

The dogs all enjoy their lives, and if they were one of our own dogs, we would continue to love and care for them until the end of their days, this the Dobermann Welfare Association, and more importantly our foster homes, have undertaken to do.

Of course, there are also several Golden Oldies who are still in kennels waiting for a good home in which to see out their twilight years. Details of some of these deserving Dobes can be found here - why not read about them, and if you would like to foster one, please get in touch.

Become a Patron of the Golden Oldies

Alternatively, you could become a Patron of the Golden Oldies Scheme. As a patron, you will receive the Golden Oldies newsletter twice a year, and you would be welcome to visit (by prior arrangement), any of the fostered Dobes, and their foster parents. If you would like any more information on the scheme, please contact Pam Whittle on: 01455 220703, and she will be pleased to help.

Some re-homed 'Oldies':

Jessie

Fostered in Devon. A 7 year old liver and tan bitch whose owner was murdered. She is very disturbed, which is understandable considering the circumstances.

Connie

Connie is four years old and is Black and Tan. She dislikes other dogs and bitches.

Jack

Jack is an extremely powerful heavy boned black and tan male. He is entire and 5 - 6 years old.

Golden Oldies waiting for new homes

Haidee

An 11 year old black and tan spayed bitch. Haidee's owner died, so has now found herself in a temporary foster home. She desperately needs a more permanent foster home. Haidee would be happier as an only dog as she has severe arthirits and doesn't like to be jostled about. She doesn't like small children , but will tolerate older ones if they are very careful with her. She is very sweet and she still enjoys her walks, although she can't walk very far. She has several short walks a day and enjoys pottering around in the garden.

Update on Haidee

Haidee's foster family have just been blessed with a new baby, and for the time being have decided to keep her on. She has shown no sign at all of disliking the baby, if anything, she has took no notice of it. Haidee doesn't have much time left for this earth now, so it is nice to know that she will never be in kennels again. Everyone at Dobermann Welfare thanks them enormously for the chance Haidee has been given of a permanent foster home.

Update 15 February 1998

Poor Haidee sadly died, probably of a broken heart. She refused to eat anything at all, and died peacefully. She will now be re-united with her deceased owner, and wil be running around gracefully again at the Rainbow Bridge.
