Over the years our marriage has become more solid and more unified. This is due solely to God's loving grace. We've encountered many trials, yet God is teaching us to "consider it all joy...knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance," (James 1:2). As we endure and stay focused on Him, it becomes more evident that "God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose," (Romans 8:28).
God reminds us of our priorities. When Dennis and I remain focused on Him and put God first in everything, the rest of our life falls into place. As we renew our minds by staying in His Word, His truth continually frees us! His Word says, "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32).This has been a reality in our marriage!
One verse that God has shown me and I've taken to heart in my marriage is, "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself." (Philippians 2:3). I always pray for a servant's heart toward my husband and that God will show me how to love and meet his needs as Christ would.
Many times when I look at my husband (most of when he's unaware), I thank God for bringing him into my life. I've seen how God has changed him into a humble ("Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you." - James 4:10), godly man and faithful servant to his family. His love he shows/expresses for me seems endless. When I see him in prayer or on his knees to God, it brings about a renewal in my heart of the love I have for him.
I used to not realize just how important it is for the husband to put God FIRST. As I see the work He is doing in my husband, it makes me all the more want to love, honor and respect him. Besides putting God first in our lives, our marriage is filled with trust. As the Lord our God is strengthening our marriage, I continually see His work in our lives.
