A MASK CLASS

Our field trip for May was at the Denver Museum of Natural History. Our group was signed up for two masking-making classes. One was at 9:30 am and the other at 12:15 pm. One of the employees there said that we came on a slow day. Sure didn't look slow to me! There were bus loads of children there from other schools, groups, etc. But they had all kinds of other classes and tours going on.

We were led into a classroom with lots of stuffed animals (#1) & (#2), colorful masks and pictures on the walls. We were 7 moms with almost 20 children. The children were seated at long tables while the teacher talked to them about shapes.

They were able to choose to make a mask from either an elephant, a rabbit or a dog. All kinds of art supplies were available for them to use including different color shapes and sizes of paper. There were plenty of moms and a few aides to help also.

Some of the moms took pictures. When the children were all finished, strings were tied on the masks and they were able to try them on for a few minutes. One of the teachers took a group picture (see above) next to the big ol' stuffed bear! Then we were on our own. A few families left while a few of us took our own tour around the museum and stayed for lunch. We even saw a shark's head!

Come see June's field trip!
