Asa AYRES & Mary AYRES

Marriage Certificate

Geauga Co., OH

1 Sept 1833

This marriage certificate was obtained from research by Gloria Odom.
Ordered from: Probate & Jevenile Court, County of Geauga,
Chardon, OH 44024

Notes: While I ordered the certificate from the court, they returned my letter & fee stating "Our office staff does not have time to do the research required to handle the numerous letters received requesting this service...." The office DID however, offer the name & address of a researcher living near Chardon who provided the service for me - a xerox of the marriage record for $1.00 - though it was not certified - March 1985.

Marriage Notes: Sarah OSBORN was born 2 Sept. 1816, according family records. When she wanted to get married, she was still age 16; a few days short of her 17th birthday. Sarah OSBORN was daughter of Ransom OSBORN & Sarah HURD. I have not figured out where the parents were living at this time ... possibly in Hicksville, Williams Co., OH?? I'll have to check my records and get back on this point. At some point, both Ransom & Sarah OSBORN as well as Buenos & Sarah AYRES lived at the same time in Hicksville, OH. The legal age to marry in OH for ladies in 1833 was age 18 and for men age 21 (my deductions from the marriage license). Sarah had to have special permission granted by her parents to be married. See the application for Marriage License for additional details. This marriage certificate does not show that Buenos & Sarah were married in Kirtland, Geauga Co., OH. However, the marriage license shows "township of Kirtland." Also, in family records, a copy of the 50th wedding anniversary invitations show they were married in "Kirtland, OH."
