SECOND GENERATION


Richard Potter was born on 14 Feb 1792 in North Carolina. He died on 2 Jan 1886 in Buchanan Co, VA. He is buried in Breaks Interstate Park, Va. He owned all the lands that are currently in the Breaks Interstate Park. According to family stories he was buried beneath the cedar tree that he frequented during his peroids of meditation. As the marker states he is not forgotten. His children settled and lived in the area known as the Potter Flats. A visiting 19th century writer after a visit to to the Potter clan published a book in which he wrote they were "molded with a gentle spirit". The tombstone was paid for by Mose Potter Jr, Babe Potter and Elihu Tackett. They hued timbers into cross ties, sold them and finished paying for the stone which was purchased from Richard's stepson Enoch Wallace for $48.00.

Richard Potter was married to Mary Christine "Teeney" Ramey, (daughter of William Ramey and Anna Samlins) on 20 Jan 1825 in Pike County, Kentucky. Mary Christine "Teeney" Ramey was born in 1803. She died about 1868. At this time we are unsure of where she is buried. Richard Potter and Mary Christine "Teeney" Ramey had the following children:

Richard Potter was married to Mary "Polly" Wallace on 15 May 1875. Mary "Polly" Wallace was born on 18 Mar 1853 in Russell Co, Va. She had no children with Richard Sr.but had a son Enoch Wallace born Virginia ca. 1873 per 1880 census.
