Daniel W. Short was born in 1845 in Scott Co., Va. He died in Aug 1927 in Bonds Mill at Pound, (Wise Co.) Va. He was a Farmer. He served in Co. B. 7th Cavalry Battalion, CSA. He previously served in Co. C, 5th VSL and in Co. A, French's Battalion Va. Inf. He is listed on the 1909 Wise County CSA Pension list.

Daniel W. Short married Charlotte Hollyfield (daughter of Unknown Hollyfield and Unknown Unknown). She was born on 21 Jan 1847. She died on 17 Oct 1888 in Russell County, VA. Daniel W. Short and Charlotte Hollyfield had the following children:

child John F. Short died on 14 Nov 1887 in Wise Co., Va. He was born in Rowan,Ky. He died of fever when he was 1 year old. His brother James A. died the next day.

Daniel W. Short married second Sarah J. Brumett Hunsucker (daughter of George Washington Brumett and Martha Jane "Patsy" Riggs) on 12 Nov 1890. Sarah J. Brumett Hunsucker was born in Va. Daniel W. Short and Sarah J. Brumett Hunsucker had the following children:
