Terry's 3M's: Meditations, Mutterings, Madness

November 2, 1997

The house is very quiet now. Everybody has gone for a visit across town and I elected to stay home. I just wanted some peace and quiet. It's a rare treat in this house. After a 3-day weekend, I'm ready for some peace and quiet.

Tomorrow, I will be spending a lot of time doing laundry and some other things that need to be done--like cooking up the 3 pumpkins that we didn't carve for Halloween. But tonight, I shall just delight in the quiet and finish reading Trick or Treat Murder. I might even finish Death of a Nag.

I've got all these books to finish reading by next Sunday and I don't know how I'm going to manage it. I won't be able to read the book by Jean Auel.

This week, with the exception of tomorrow, is a week of half-days for the kids at school. Instead of giving the kids their report cards to take home and sign, the parent is summoned for a parent-teacher conference and receives the report card directly from the teacher. Within a time frame of a whole 15 minutes, you and the teacher discuss your child's progress or lack of same, with recommendations of how to improve your child's performance. Sometimes they are useful.

However, some of the things that the teacher suggests are (to me, anyway) a little impractical. Such as spraying the kitchen table with shaving cream and having the child practice writing his/her spelling words in the foam. If you have one child (and each teacher talks to you as if the child in his/her class is the only child you have), that might even be fun. But, kids are kids and if you put two of them together with a pile of shaving foam, well, you know what exactly what's coming up next.

Well, time for me to close this up and upload this entry. Or else, I might not have the time to finish those books after all.
