Terry's 3M's: Meditations, Mutterings, Madness

Terry's 3M's

July 22, 1998

I love this weather! Even if it means that I have to hurry up and write this and get it uploaded before the next storm comes in.

I was off a little in my last entry when I said that I was standing in 40-50mph winds. According to the radio, the winds were 60mph! And while the wind is calm now, we are to expect another thunderstorm this afternoon.

I feel a little guilty because I am enjoying the weather while others are suffering because of it.

A man had a fatal heart attack while stuck in water in an underpass.

Maybe he was new in town. Or maybe he was in a hurry. Anyone who has been here for over a year knows better than to try to drive through the railroad underpasses during a rainy day.

A tourist who is driving through different parts of the city during a dry month might be surprised to see deep ditches and bridges over the dry beds in different areas. They are actually life and property savers. The desert out here is hardpan. Water isn't absorbed--it just travels across until it finds a low point. During a hard storm, those drains can be flowing with tons of water within minutes.

The power only flickered here for a millisecond or three the other night while 25,000 other residents lost their power.

Well, maybe I should end this for now. The kids are getting restless. They don't want to go outside in the heat anymore than the adults do.
