Terry's 3M's: Meditations, Mutterings, Madness

Terry's 3M's

August 20, 1998

Maybe instead of trying to concentrate above the noise, I'll just type in the conversation around me.

"The smoke will stay in here for a few minutes." (When someone coughed--in reference to one of the kids burning a roll in the microwave.)

"Auntie, can't I just wear the dress today? It's getting too short...I'm out-growing it." "No. That dress is still too good to wear around the house and it has enough wear left in it so that we'll give it away."

"How much fat do you think apples have?" (Bryan to Carrie)
"You answer it."
"I already know the answer. None."

"Oh, thank you. Thank you, very much. Two pants and no tops." That's Stephanie. The girls used to clean out their bedroom when it was totaled by throwing all their clothes into the laundry. So, now that they are doing their own laundry...well, the bottom of their closet was knee high in clothes today and the top shelf of the clothes rack was a mess, and there were clothes on their book shelves and on top of the dresser. So, I made them take them all downstairs to wash and rewash. Consequently, only the things that were hanging up properly got spared along with whatever is in their dresser drawers. I guess that remark meant that there aren't many play clothes left upstairs. (The girls have one load in the dryer and another in the washer now.)

Bryan is reciting the names of the planets. He is telling Carrie that she owes him money because she didn't know the answer to the question that he both asked and answered. Auntie interferes and declares that they are not allowed to bet.

Johnny is asking "What are Saturn's rings made of?" Bryan says that they're made of small meteorites.

They are discussing the planet Vulcan. Vulcan is the next planet after Pluto. Scientists have found another planet beyond Vulcan, but, I don't think that they've named it yet.

Now Johnny is asking me questions about planets.

I inform the kids that they have to try to find a home for the kitten. Carrie says that R would like the kitten. I said, "Go get her and have her pick it up." Bryan is calling a friend of his as backup.

Now, Bryan is talking to another friend. He wants to see if the two of them have any classes together this year.

Johnny is eating leftover taco salad that Faye brought home last night. Each of the kids had a bite or two of it. John also had leftover spaghetti from last night. (This is breakfast. I'm having coffee.)

Oh, oh. Bryan is upset. He and his best friend only have their first class together.

Just a typical morning and a typical half hour of that morning around here.
