To all Masons throughout the world
"May Brotherly Love Prevail"
Masonary dates back some 800 years,
about 400 of those years were operative masons.
As they grew in numbers, they formed what was called lodges,
like districts today, they had three classes,
entered apprentices, those just beginning in the trade, then came the fellow craft, who was more experienced in the craft,
then there was the master, one who was a master of the trade.
These groups elected a master
and two other officers to control these lodges.
Around the 16th century,
when most of the archetural structures were almost completed,
the operative masons were hard pressed to find work
and started to travel around to find work,
in so doing these lodges lost members.
To keep the lodges open they took in people who were not masons by trade,
but were men of high moral standards
and well known in the community where they lived.
They became known as accepted masons.
This is about the time that the change from operative to speculative masons came about.
If one was to look around,
they could still see many of these structures still standing and usable today.
Free Masons of today are very active throughout the world.
Withstanding all the trials and tribulations it has gone through
in the many years of its existance, it still remains in its true form.
This is because of those who have dedicated their time and efforts to promote the craft,
and still believe that
'Brotherly Love', 'Relief', and 'Truth'
are the tenents of our Order.
