There For Me


You have been a sure anchorage in
turbulent times...holding me steady
till the winds abate.

You are the one who knows how much or
how little needs to be said in times of
sorrow or distress.

In the darkest hours I know I can reach
out and find your hand.

Thank you for making me laugh - even
when I thought there wasn't a laugh
left in the world.

Hard times don't always make people
brave and wise and forgiving. Mostly, they
are edgy and unreasoning, bitter and angry
and confused. That's when they need
friends like you - who weather the moods
and self-pity and see them through
to better days.

I suppose I could have struggled through
without you. But thank heavens
I didn't have to.
