Picnic. We always went somewhere warm and fun to have our picnics. Usually it was somewhere near Zion National Park or St. George, Utah since it's hotter there at Easter. We'd always have chicken because it travels so well. There would usually be an Easter Egg hunt, even though the Bunny had to make a special trip to hide his goodies! (top)

Coloring Eggs. Sometimes it was late at night, but we always HAD to color some Easter Eggs. Most of the time we used those fizzy tablets and the vinegar with the vinegar water for cooking the eggs. The smell has lots of fond memories for me and I like to keep this tradition in my home. We've tried some of the newer, fun methods for coloring eggs, but the "good old method" my mother used brings back lots of fond memories for me. (top)

Raw Eggs!. One year we were going down to the Utah/Arizona border to the western-most section of the Grand Canyon. I took my boyfriend and we had some of our extended family with us. We were picnicing on the rocks (the sand added nutrition to our food too). This was probably about 1971 and I was the resident hair stylist for my mother. She liked the bouffant hairstyles of the day. Well, my sister proceeded to use my mother's head in the traditional way -- cracking an egg on someone ELSEs head. But, the egg wasn't cooked! I don't remember much humor on my mother's part, but I remember that year more than any others! All due to one raw, colored egg...(top)

Clothes?. The Easter Bunny usually requested a simple list of small gifts so that the kids wouldn't get "junk". Many years the summer clothes were on the racks so the Bunny would bring our kids summer clothes. What a practical Bunny we have! (top)

Music. I am a Member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known by our nickname "Mormon"). We have a very strong tradition in our Church and in our family that music is a very important part of worship. So, since my mother always loved the Tabernacle Choir and was able to sing in the Choir for several years, we always had beautiful, worship music playing on Sunday. One of the best parts of Easter was the music the various "ward" choirs would provide for the Sacrament Meetings. I love to sing and always LOVE the music and sing in the Ward Choir. (top)

Church. Easter is a sacred time. The Savior was resurrected so that we all can be resurrected! As an active member of my Church all my life, I always go to Church and Easter is a special time. We don't do the Easter Egg hunt and other things on Sunday for that reason. Sunday is a day of worship. As a Church we don't worship or revere the "cross", but rather, we celebrate the Resurrection.
