Junior Badges We are
Working On
Today and Tomorrow Dabbler
- we completed this badge on our bridging weekend last May. We did the
following activities:
- A.1 (a) Jim brought his telescope to the camp and showed us
the stars and we think we saw either Venus or Mars.
- A.1 (b) We read about pH and used litmus paper to check for
acids or bases on different things we brought to camp.
- B.2 We kept a record of all the times that we used water in a
day. We discussed how we could conserve water the next time we visit the
camp.
- D.2 We made paper airplanes and went outside to fly them.
- F.1 We made silver polish aout of cream of tartar and lemon
juice. We cleaned another leaders silverware with it and it was really
cool how it cleaned it.
- G.2 We fingerprinted our thumbs and looked to see how they
differed and then we made creatures and objects out of our thumbprints
with markers.
Exploring Healthy Eating - We are
doing this badge to earn the Sign of the Rainbow.
- #3 Renee made a chart and gave us the things we needed to
remember and we made a menu for a family of five that were going on a
three day vacation.
- #2 We discussed what we found when we went comparison
shopping with our parents. Ans we also discussed the taste test we did
at home.
- #4 At our Investiture and Rededication Ceremony we brought in
our favorite recipe and we tasted what everyone brought.
- #6 We talked about what we ate for three days. We talked
about the junk foods and the good foods we ate. And we decided to not
eat so much junk food and try to eat more foods that are good for you.
- #9 We discussed the type of food comercials we saw watching
tv. They were mostly sugar cereal and junk food during the times of kid
programs.
- #5 We planned out first Father/Daughter Dinner.
Drawing and Painting- We are doing
this badge to earn the Sign of the Rainbow.
- #4 We drew two pictures using different lines. We used
colored pencils and markers.
- #1 We drew a picture and Renee copied them twice. Then we
colored each picture with one medium. We got to choose between crayons,
patels, chalk, markers, and colored pencils.
- #3 We sponge painted aprons and we finger painted a picture.
- #8 We made a mural. It has a beach, a city, the woods, the
night sky, and the day time sky.
- #9 We used all the methods we used in the other drawings in
the mural and we will have an art show after our Court of Awards
Ceremony at the end of February.
Science Slueth - We are doing
this badge to eearn the Sign of the Rainbow.
- #1 We went to the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks before
Christmas. We had a tour of the building, the Communications Center, and
they taught us how to dust and lift for fingerprints. Then we
partici[ated in the Child Protection Program. Trooper Grady
fingerprinted each girl and the girls got to take them home.
- #2 Each girl made a musical instrument. Three made guitars,
one made a drum and two made musical glasses. Each girl showed how to
change the tune and they also played a melody.
- #3The girls made crystals at home and brought them to the
meeting to compare them to each others. The recipe is here:
Crystals.
- #4 The girls looked around their homes and their
neighborhoods for simple machines. They drew pictures of them to share
with the rest of them.
- #5 For 2 days we made a list of all the things that we used
that were electric. Then we looked at the list to see what we could live
without. The choices were hard.Then we picked three of the appliances
and looked back in history to see where they came from. Then we tried to
predict how these appliances would change in the future.
- #9 We found out how to hook up a VCR to a TV.
- #6 We had to pick 2 of the following things and show someone
howto do them.
- Make a fire extinguisher and put out a fire.
- Show that air exerts pressure.
- Send and read messages written with invisible ink
- Make something float that is heavier than water.
- Move an object by rolling it rahter than pushing it.
- Move water from one jar to another without pouring.

Cookie Connections - We did
this because it is cookie time.
- #1 we came up with some new ideas on how to sell cookies.
- #2 We discussed the type of cookies we sell and what is in
them.
- #3 We learned how to be polite to the customers.
- #6 We discussed what we wanted to do with our proceeds. We
decided to sponsor the rabbit agian at the local zoo and to buy a Junior
Troop flag.
- #9 We learned the Do's and Don't's of selling cookies. Ashley
and Rebekah made posters of them.
