Inside Games
What am I?
Think of and
object to describe. Make up some clues to tell about the object. The last
statement should be "What am I?". Here is an example:
Answwer: an ant
Brownie to Brownie
You
can change the name to suit who is playing. (i.e. Friend to Friend, Daisy to
Daisy, etc.) Pair the plays. Have the pairs face their partners. The caller has
to call out different parts of the body and the partners have to touch them to
their partner. (i.e. right hand to right hand, head to head, shoulder to
shoulder, etc.) When the caller calls out Brownie to Brownie, the players have
to find a new partner.
Duck Pond
We played this
game at the Literacy Fest. You need a small swimming pool, or a dish pan or
something that has a flat bottom to hold water. We used rubber ducks, but I am
aware of small bathtub tooys in shapes of different fish can be used. Number the
ducks with a permanent marker on the bottom. Each number or a group of numbers
represent something that the player can win. We used candy, huggie jugs, and
pencils. The Player picks up the duck and the number tells them what they win.
What's Inside?
We did
this game at the Literacy Fest. Get a small box and put a hole in the top of the
box. Place 6-8 small items inside. Have the player guess what they feel. 0-2
right guesses wins a piece of candy, 3-5 right guesses wins a pencil, 6-8 right
guesses wins a huggie jug. You can come up with your own prizes if you want. If
you are doing it with a small group of girls the one who guesses the most right
can win a prize.
Can You Guess?
We played
this game at the Literacy Fest. We filled three jars of the same size. One with
marbles, one with jelly beans, and one with beans. The players tried to guess
how many were inside. If they guessed correctly they won the jar. And if they
came within 10 of the correct amout they won a huggie jug. If they guessed with
in 20 they got a piece of candy. They have to guess without going over. Now when
I did this game with my Brownie troop all the girls took a guess and the closest
one without going over won the jar.
Idea came from the Brownie
Handbook on page 216.
Lollipop Pull
We played
this game at the Literacy Fest. You will need a sqaure piece of styrofoam and a
bunch of lollipops. Decide how many prizes you want. We bought jump ropes,
paddle balls, and jacks. Color the bottom of the lollipop stick red of how many
prizes you have. Stick those lollipops all over the styrofoam. Then color some
lollipop stick bottoms blue with how many secondary prizes you have (we used
huggie jugs). Place them all over the styrofoam and then just place a whole
bunch of lollipops that are not colored all over the board. Have the player pick
one out and the color they have is the prize that they win. If they pull a white
lollipop they keep the lollipop. If they pull a red or blue one they win the
prize and also get to keep the lollipop. I had 5 red prizes, 15 red prizes, and
the rest were lollipops.
Choices
This is a
problem solving game. The players are given choices. Such as "Are you more
like a bunny rabbit or a teddy bear?". Then tell them that all the bunnies
go to one side of the room and all the teddy bears go to the other side of the
room. Then ask the players why they chose a bunny or the bear. Make sure you
make the choices close in value. Other examples are: a pencil and a pen, a
carrot or celery, or a hot dog and a hamburger.

Animals
Sit in a circle.
Have each girl pick and animal. Go around the circle and have each of the girls
make the sound that their animal makes. Pass out playing cards until they are
evenly distributed. Each girl flips the first card over. If their card matches
someone elses card they have to make that persons sound before they make the
other persons sound. Who ever says it first takes the other person's card. If
the player has a stack of cards from other rounds they have to take them too.
Play until one person has all the cards.
Art Consequences
Fold a
sheet of paper in threes. Have the first person draw a head of something. Then
hide the top and have the second person draw the middle part of something. Hide
the middle and pass it to the next person and have them draw the bottonm of
something. Once the third person is done open the paper and see what kind of
creature you made.
Bango
You will need one
deck of cards for every 3-5 players. Deal 5 cards to each girl. Have them line
their cards in front of them face up. The caller for each group of girls takes
the remaining cards and turns a card over. The girls check their cards and if
they have the same number they turn that card over. Keep calling until one of
the girls has all their cards turned over and yells "Bango!"
Mirrors
The girls need
to pair up. One girl is the mirror and the other is the image. The mirror has to
do what the image is doing -- brushing teeth, combing hair, putting on shoes,
etc. -- remembering to use the opposite hand of the image so it will be
reflected in a mirror.
Freeze Dance
Play music
and have the girls freeze when the music stops. Whoever doesn't freeze has to
sit down until there is only one girl left. We didn't play this way. We just had
the girls freeze so they could get out all their energy.
Animal Moves
Lizard Make
index cards with the animals below. Have the girls pick a card without seeing
what is on them and have them act out that animal. The other girls have to
guess. The one who guesses right gets to pick next until everyone gets a correct
guess.
Bee | Whale | Lizard |
Cricket | Horse | Robin |
Rattlesnake | Squirrel | Bat |
Cat | Fly | Chicken |
Dog | Skunk | Monkey |
Lion | Parrot | Fish |
Frog | Elephant | Turtle |
Alligator | Donkey | Rabbit |
Jan-Ken-Pon
Pair the
girls and have them facing each other. Make a fist and swing back and forth
saying "Jan-Ken-Pon". On Pon make paper, rock or scissors. Paper beats
rock by covering rock, Rock beats scissors by crushing Scissors, Scissors beats
paper by cutting paper. Whoever wins the round gets a point. First one to get 7
points wins.
Winding Up, Winding Down
Wind
up the girls and have them act like a wind up toy until they stop. You can wind
them again if you like.
Weather Walks
Have the
girls act out their version of the weather when you mention weather terms.
Seven Up
Seven girls
are picked to stand in front of everyone and the rest of the girls lay their
heads down on the table. The seven girls would go around and tap one person on
the shoulder and the tapped person puts their thumb up. When the seven are done
tappng they call out "Heads up seven up". Each girl tapped has one
chance to guess who tapped them. If they are right they switch places. If they
guess wrong they stay seated.
Sir Walter Raleigh
Pair
the girls up and one girl has to be Sir Walter and the other has to be the
princess. Sir Walter has two pieces of cardboard or construction paper. Sir
Walter places one piece in front of the princess and she steps on it and the
next piece of paper is placed in front of her. This goes on until she crosses
the finish line. First one across the finish line wins.
Snowball Race
Each
child gets 6 cotton balls and a spoon. The girls have to pick up the cotton ball
with the spoon and race across to the finish line and place the cotton ball into
a cup. They can not touch the cotton ball with their hands at all. The first one
to have all the cotton balls in their cup wins.
Islands
Make Islands out of
construction paper or cardboard place them around the playing area. Pick a girl
to be it and she is the crocodile. The other girls run from island to island and
try not to be caught by the crocodile. Only one person on an island at a time.
If they are caught by the crocodile, they are eaten. In other words they have to
sit out.
Sequence Ball
Have all the girls sit in a circle facing each other. Have one girl
call out another girls name and throw her the ball. Once everyone has had a turn
tell the girls to go as fast as they can.
Ice Breaker Game
Have a list
of about 20-30 things that are about the girls. Such as they have a cat for a
pet, they are brownies and so on. Have the girls get a chair to sit on in a
circle facing in. Read off the first item and say who ever has this move one
seat to the right or left. And yes they will end up sitting on someones lamp. We
did this game when we went to camp and we had about 6 girls on one chair. It was
a lot of fun.
Forfiets
Have the girls take
off one item that they have on them and put it in a pile. Have someone sit on a
chair facing them. Have another person hold an item above the person's head that
is sitting down. The person sitting has to sy "If this item belongs to you
you have to do this to get it back". Have the girls do silly things like
sing thier ABC's, hop on one foot, and so on.
