Inside and Outside Games
Hawk and Hens
One person is
the hawk and all the other players are hens. The hawk stands between the safety
zones and tries to catch the hens as they run back and forth from one safety
zone to the other. When a hen is caught, that person sits on the side and
watches the game. The last hen to be caught by the hawk becomes the next hawk.

Soccer Guard
You will
need a soccer ball, 1/2 gallon milk jug or a plastic bowling pin, and masking
tape. Make a big circle with the masking tape. Place the bowling pin in the
middle. The guard should be in the middle with the pin. All the other players
should be on the outside of the circle. The players forming the circle have to
kick the ball and try and knock the pin down. The guard protects the pin by
kicking the ball away from it. No high kicking and you can't use your hands. If
the pin gets knocked over, the one that kicked it over becomes the guard. If the
guard kicks the pin over, the guard has to choose someone who hasn't been a
guard yet to be the guard.

Brownie to Brownie
You
can change the name to suit who is playing. (i.e. Friend to Friend, Daisy to
Daisy, etc.) Pair the plays. Have the pairs face their partners. The caller has
to call out different parts of the body and the partners have to touch them to
their partner. (i.e. right hand to right hand, head to head, shoulder to
shoulder, etc.) When the caller calls out Brownie to Brownie, the players have
to find a new partner.
Centipede
Divide the
players into two equal teams. If there is a left over player have them be the
finish line and they can join a team later. Have the players get into lines and
have them get down on their hands and knees. The players who are on their hands
and knees behind someone has to grab the person's ankles that are in front of
them. That have to stay like this until they all cross the finish line. When the
caller says "GO!" they all have to move forward together until they
all cross the finish line. If they break apart, they have to stop and connect
again.
Red Light, Green Light
Choose
someone to be "It".(I am usually "It" the first time around)
"It" stands at one end of the playing field and the players stand at
the other end. "It" turns around and says "Green Light!" The
players run towards "It". "It" turns around and yells "Red
Light!" Everyone must stop.If "It" catches anyone moving they
have to go back to start. The game continues until a player touches "It".
Then the player becomes "It".

Mr. Bear
Someone needs to be
Mr. Bear. Have them sit on a chair and pretend to be sleeping. Everyone stands
around Mr. Bear and starts off softly saying "Mr. Bear are you awake?"
The players keep saying the phrase louder each time they say it. Then Mr. Bear
wakes up and says "Yes" and chases the players until they reach base.
Whoever Mr. Bear catches becomes his bear cubs and helps to catch the other
players.

Duck, Duck, Goose
Have
everyone sit in a circle. Choose someone to be "It". Have "It"
go around touching the tops of the girls' heads and say "Duck" one
each head. When ready "It" can say "Goose". "Goose"
jumps up and chases "It" before she sits down in "Goose"'s
seat. If "Goose" catches "It", "It" has to sit in
the middle which is called the "Soup" until someone else is caught. "Goose"
then becomes "It". If "It" isn't caught then "Goose"
is "It" until "It" is caught or sits down before caught.
Migration
Line
up at the starting line. Leader calls out the name of an animal. Everyone must
race to the finish line like the animal called. For example: if "duck"
is called out they must waddle like a duck to the finish line. Other animals:
birds, snake, worm, fish , dog, kangaroo, turtle, rabbit, lobster, and bear.
After doing a few change to this: Tell them that not all animals survive
migration because of food, other animals and weather. Have some girls be
obstacles. They have to firmly plant their feet and use their hands to tag the
racers. If a racer is tagged that racer has to fall to the ground and play dead.
Do this until only one racer is left.
Camouflaged Creatures
Scatter
about 100 toothpicks on the playing area. Make sure that one of the colors
blends into the playing area. One at a time, the girls run to the feeding area
to find food. Each girl makes several flights picking up one toothpick at a
time. The reason the girls only pick up one toothpick at a time is that birds
catch only what they see, so don't feel around on the ground, pick up the first
toothpick you see. After the flights, ask the girls what color was the easiest
to see and which color was the hardest to see.
Shopping Contest
Have
the girls sit in a circle with an opening for a door. In the center of the
circle place many small objects. Suggestions: pebbles, leaves, bark, blocks,
toothpicks, pencils and so forth. The player's are numbered in 2's or 3's and is
assigned a number. The leader of the game calls out a shopping list and a
number. Such as: 4 pebbles, 2 leaves, I stick, number 2. The group whose number
is called goes to the circle opening and goes inside and shop for the items.
Then they go back to their seats and place their items in front of them and
raise their hands. The girl who does her shopping correctly and fastest wins.
Winding Up, Winding Down
Wind
up the girls and have them act like a wind up toy until they stop. You can wind
them again if you like.
Mouse Trap
Four girls
become the mouse trap by standing in a circle, facing in, and holding hands with
their arms way up in the air. The other children are the mice and they run in
and out of the trap. Then when the leader calls "Spring the Trap" the
girls who are the trap bring their arms down and hopefully catch some mice
inside. The caught mice become part of the trap. The game continues until all
are caught and the last four caught become the trap and the game starts again.
Doggy, Doggy, where's your bone?
Pick a person to be the dog and this person sits on a chair with their
back to the rest of the girls. An object is placed under her chair. This is the
bone. The dog closes her eyes while someone steals the bone and hides somewhere
on them. Then they sing "Doggy, Doggy, where is your bone? Someone's stolen
it from your home. Guess who it might be." Then the dog opens her eyes and
has three guesses who took it. If she guessed right than she gets another turn
as the dog, but if she guesses wrong she switches with the one who has it.
Sometimes leave the bone under the chair to fool the dog.
Sir Walter Raleigh
Pair
the girls up and one girl has to be Sir Walter and the other has to be the
princess. Sir Walter has two pieces of cardboard or construction paper. Sir
Walter places one piece in front of the princess and she steps on it and the
next piece of paper is placed in front of her. This goes on until she crosses
the finish line. First one across the finish line wins.
Islands
Make Islands out of
construction paper or cardboard place them around the playing area. Pick a girl
to be it and she is the crocodile. The other girls run from island to island and
try not to be caught by the crocodile. Only one person on an island at a time.
If they are caught by the crocodile, they are eaten. In other words they have to
sit out.
Sequence Ball
Have all the girls sit in a circle facing each other. Have one girl
call out another girls name and throw her the ball. Once everyone has had a turn
tell the girls to go as fast as they can.
Clumps
Have the girls walk
around, dance talk or whatever. Yell out a number and the girls have to get in
groups of that number. Any left over girls have to sit out the next round. Keep
doing this until they are tired or your tired.
Cinderella
Have the girls get
into two groups. They also have to take off on shoe and put them in a pile at
the other end of the playing field. You will also need a broomstick for each
group. In the group you need a prince that will be down by the shoes. All the
other girls will be Cinderella. Cinderella gets on the broom stick runs, skips
or whatever to the pile of shoes. The prince has to find her shoe and put it on
her foot. Then Cinderella has to go back to the line and pass the broom to the
next Cinderella. The first side that gets all their shoes wins.
