Thinking Day In England

Thinking Day '99

This year for Thinking Day we learned about England. We compared Englands Promise to ours and our motto to theirs. And this is what we found out:

Our Promise and Motto Their Promise and Motto
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
to help other people
and
To keep the Brownie Guide Law.
Be Prepared Lend a Hand

We also learned that some of our words are different in England, but mean the same thing. This is what else we learned:

American Word British Word
sink washbasin
bangs fringe
car trunk boot
flaslight torch
barrette slide
stroller pram
diaper nappy
truck lorry
sweater jumper
gasoline petrol
suspenders braces
tennis shoes plimsoles
pen biro
elevator lift
piece of candy sweet
phone booth call box
radio wireless
car hood bonnet

We also learned that British people like to eat food on toast and eat salt and vinegar on french fries. We ate salt and vinegar potato chips and ate spagetti, bacon with sauce, sausage with sauce, and baked beans on toast. They all didn't taste great, but it was fun to try them all.
