Buffalo Rescues contd.
One night we could hear our men singing, it was coming thru the vents, we all rejoiced. On a saturday evening we could hear someone praying very loudly down on the street below our second floor jailblock and we feverishly tried to see out between louvered windows, and as I looked I could see this precious black minister of God and some other people with him, and in his arms he was carrying many beautiful long stemmed roses, and he was saying for you mothers that are incarcerated for trying to save babies, you are not forgotten, these roses are for you, even though they would not allow him to give them to us.
There was a very nice gymnasium in the jail, and occasionally we could go down there. When they would take us down there we were able to see and be with some of are other rescuers who were housed in another area, and that was always a very special time. One time while we were there another precious lady and I were walking around the gym praying and we came up on two young girls, and one was bent over and holding her stomach, and her friend was trying to console her, so we stopped and I asked what was the matter, and the friend said she was having a terrible stomach ache, so my friend and I layed hands on her and prayed, and when we finished praying we were standing there talking and I looked around, and this precious young girl that we had just prayed for was out jumping rope. Praise God.
One Sunday, we were allowed to attend a service in the jail chapel, what a wonderful blessing that was, all our men rescuers who were also incarcerated were also in attendance , it was a most glorious time praising the Lord, the King of Kings.
When it came time for my trial, and I was one of the first ones to go to trial, there were four other women and me, and then some of the men also were going to trial that day. I told the women that were with me that if the judge was to harsh that I would probably go limp in the court room so when the cops handcuffed us to go from the jail to the courthouse one of the women refused to be handcuffed to me because she thought I was to radical, so her friend and mine said she would be handcuffed to me, so when it came time for the court the one that was handcuffed to me and I were called first to go before the judge, then there were two of our men. The judge heard from the arresting officers, and he asked them what we were doing out there when we were arrested, and the one officer said of me that I was just sitting there on the sidewalk, when in fact when they arrested me I went limp and praise God he did not mention that. So our attorney asked us four if any of us had anything to say I raised my hand, and they allowed me to take the stand, and I told the judge and packed courtroom that I was out there sitting on the sidewalk in hopes of being able to talk to the mothers to save them from the exploitation of abortion and to save babies lives. When I was finished and went back to my seat the judge ruled dismissed, which means there were no charges and it went for all four of us, we were all set free immediately, praise the Lord. It did not go the same for all of our people unfortunately.
When we got out we went to look for a good place to eat, and we finally found a nice restaurant and we were enjoying a wonderful meal and discussing all that had transpired, when a man sitting next to us overheard us and said to us that he was against abortion, and I asked him what he had done about it, and he said because of his job he couldn't do much. But when we left the restaurant and went to pay the bill, that precious man had payed the bill for us. From the restaurant we went back to the jail to see if any more had been released, the court had closed and no more were released that day.
Buffalo, New York is right on the border of Canada and we went over that evening to see Niagra Falls, that is one of God's most awesome wonders what a sight for sore eyes, I will never forget it and one day God willing I will go back there and maybe take my children and grandchildren to see it.
When I arrived home from being in jail for two weeks in Buffalo, N.Y. there was a little yellow slip in my mail that said I should go pick up a registered letter at the post office. Well it was no welcome home card. It was in fact a letter from an attorney who was also the vice chairman of the Republican Executive Committee of which I was an elected member. There were some on this Committee who were pro- death and did not like my stand on the abortion issue. So they wanted to ask me to either resign or they would take a vote to see if they could oust me. Now the Republican Platform has a pro-life plank in it, and Republicans are supposed to uphold the Platform. Well it came time for the dreadful meeting where they were going to try to throw me off the Committee, and there were more Christians there on my behalf than there were Committee members. But the Chairman gagged the non-members from even speaking, very polite of them, especially when any other topic is discussed anyone can speak. There is no freedom of speech when it comes to abortion.
The Holy Spirit gave me the words to say, Luke 11:46 Woe unto you lawyers! for you lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and you yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers. And verse 52 Woe unto you lawyers for you have taken away the key of knowledge: you entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in you hindered. They were going to take a secret vote, so I said, you may take a secret vote but God knows the innermost secret things, and vengeance is mine saith the Lord. Then I sat down they took the vote and by the grace of Almighty God, I won by ONE vote As Reported by the Press. Most of the people that voted against me never returned to another meeting, and Christians now fill their places, Praise God Forever.
