Della MELLINGER was born circa 1867 in Hardin Co, Iowa, the daughter of William MELLINGER Jr. and Dorcas WOOD. According to a county history, at age 18 she was in the employ of the Sentinel newspaper in Iowa Falls and graduated from the Cedar Valley Seminary in 1890. After graduating she did slum work in Chicago and Boston, and then was sent on a mission to Turkey where she remained off and on for 9 years. She had a hand in raising $100,000 for the Friends of Armenia Society. She also spent time lecturing in England and Ireland, but had to give up her work due to heart trouble. While in England she lived with some female authors who wrote a book on her. In 1898 she married Dr. Avedis NAKASHUAN, an Armenian physician, but she died in 1899 leaving her husband with a four-day old daughter.

If anyone has any ideas how to track down the book that was written about her, please let me know at the email address below.
