I have been finding table lights left on
in our bedroom when I was sure that they were turned off. Well,
the mystery has been solved. They are touch lights, and Bailey
discovered that he can turn the lights on by himself by touching
them with his nose. (My husband caught Bailey in the act).![]()

Our Riley (white
dog on the right) is one to horde rawhides. When all five dogs
get rawhide strips at night, he'll take his and hide it in the
closet, then come back to see if anyone else walks away from
theirs. If they do, he takes theirs to the closet also. Then, in
the morning, he brings them out to chew on while we get ready for
work. ![]()
My Shih Tzu,
Gizmo, and greyhound, Crescent, have never been close; Crescent
enjoys pouncing on her big brother too much and Gizmo is a bit
snarly with her in response. However, I do believe they have an
"understanding" when it comes to getting treats. I keep
one stash of treats in a cabinet above my dryer in the laundry
room. Gizmo can't reach the top of the dryer, but Crescent can,
so I think Giz encouraged Cres to climb on top of the dryer and
use that needle nose to grab the treat bag. I came home to find
doggie biscuits all over the laundry room, and two very full
puppies. I put locks on the laundry room cabinets. Just last
night, Cres walked over to the "special treat" stash in
the dining room cabinets and proceeded to use that needle nose to
open the cabinet while Giz grabbed the treat bag. I confiscated
the treats, but gave them each one for their ingenuity and
teamwork. (-; I guess I need to put locks on all of the cabinets
now. ....Submitted by Pamela D. Hanes from Texas
Our first gh Zima had been with us
only a month or two and was still learning that
hard-to-comprehend notion that food was not automatically his
simply because it was within his reach. Michael had been
patiently working on "leave it" and "no", and
Zima was beginning to respond. One night at the computer, Michael
set a plate with a piece of pizza on the table next to the
moniter. He gave the salivating Zima a warning look and a firm
"no". In the half second it took for him to glance at
the moniter, the hound grabbed the pizza and bolted for the
bedroom door. From the kitchen, I hear a bloodcurdling yelp, as
if someone is skinning the hound alive--I run to the bedroom
demanding to know what Michael has done to the poor dog!
Apparently, Michael had picked up a crumpled T-shirt and hurled
it after the thief; it arced down in a graceful swoosh and
brushed Zima's fleeing hindquarters by the barest millimeter. Yet
to Zima, this has been a most devastating and traumatic injury
(to his pride!) He has never stolen food since....!! ....Submitted by Michael Rall and Dru Marquis

realize
that he is "not the brightest bulb on the Christmas
tree". One morning as I was still lying in bed--a low futon
frame just inches off the floor--deciding if I should get up yet,
I feel River shift his position next to me (he's a big boy and
you notice when he moves!) I then hear him slowly sliding off the
bed and the inevidible THUNK as he
hits the hardwood floor. I look over my shoulder and see just a
gh rear still in place on the bed! Then his head looks up at me
surprised. His mouth opens in a silly grin and his tail begins to
thump as if he is realizing the joke. He puts his head back on
the floor and proceeds to go back to sleep!! I laughed for the
rest of the day. ....Submitted by Michael Rall and Dru Marquis
