"My Liver Transplant"

DIVIDER LINE
This is a very hard story to tell about. It was the toughest time of my life. Hepatitis C in it's final stage affects every part of your body from your mind to the tip of your toes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My stay in the hospital before the transplant was very hard. I was listed as #1 priority when I got to the hospital and only had a short time left if a liver could not be found. But one came just in time. On Janurary 22, 1996 I received a new liver. The operation took 10 1/2 hours. I am not going to get into any details of the recovery except to say it was rough.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can find no words to express my feelings when I first came to and realized it was over and I was still alive and had a second chance. The family of the person who was my donor gave me the greatest gift of all, life itself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone should be an organ donor. Far too many people die waiting for an organ and in reality what good does that liver or heart or whatever do for anyone after it is buried in the ground. It sure won't be needed by the deceased..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There are many myths associated with organ donation but as with anything these myths are just that...MYTHS. The real fact of the matter is organ donation saves lives! This is not a Frankenstein horror story it is a story of very generous people saving the lives of others!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can only tell you one side of the story but there are several sides to any story of transplantation. There are the stories of the loved ones standing beside the recipients and of the people losing a loved one and looking past their grief to save the lives of others by donating their deceased family member's organs. I have links on all of these different sides of the story plus links to dispel the myths associated with organ donation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Please take a look at these pages and then look into your heart to choose to become an organ donor.
