The Timeline of U.S. Church History
The purpose of this site is to outline the growth and development of Christianty in what is today the United States. There are several timelines of Christian history on the net.
- The Ecole Chronology Project
- This very large hyperdocument ends at 1500 and is apparently a work in progress (aren't we all).
- Two Thousand Years of Catholic Writings
- Also a very large site, this hyperlinked bibliography is arranged in chronological order.
- Chronology of Early Byzantine History
- This one is informative and scholarly
- Facts About Israeli History
- This site is maintained by the Israeli government and is an easy to use reference to BCE events in the Holy Land as well as more recent history.
- "Timeline" How We Got Our Present Bible
- This very useful page is part of a wonderful space called The Amazing Grace Web Site.
- An Anglican Timeline
- This scholarly effort runs from Golgotha to the present
- A Century of Mennonite Church Programs in Context
- This timeline has Mennonite and secular events on it - very interesting
- Wm. Murray's Time Page
- While not a timeline of church history per se, Mr. Murray's effort is just too good not to include, and does, of course, contain many links about the church
The timeline is divided into three catagories.
Schism & Propagation (in blue)
This part of the timeline deals with the propagation of the Christian faith and the breaking of it into the various denominations and their spread. Also included are references to the growth of the United States.
Books & Speech (in red)
This section deals mostly with people, since they are, after all, remembered for what they said and what they wrote (of couse, those famous more for what they did, like Fra. Serra, also had to do a certain amount of talking).
Right & Wrong (in green)
In this part of the timeline are included people and events marking both the moral progress and backsliding of society.
